Binh Duong sport’ development due to the deep concern

On Sep 15, provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a ceremony to commend and reward Binh Duong coaches, athletes, who had achieved high prizes at SEA Games 29. Talking about achievements of the athletes, as well as orientations to Binh Duong sport development, Binh Duong Newspaper had a talk with Mr. Nguyen Phu Yen, Deputy Director of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Leaders of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism welcomed Binh Duong athletes to return home after SEA Games 29.

- At this SEA Games, Binh Duong athletes won excellently 6 medals, how do you evaluate these achievements?

- As a part of Vietnamese sport delegation attending SEA Games 29, Binh Duong sport team had 1 coach (Hoang Thi Thanh Huong bowling) and 9 athletes. Karatedo had 3 athletes: Nguyen Minh Phung, Nguyen Thanh Duy and Ho Quang Vu; tennis had Ly Hoang Nam and Nguyen Van Phuong; bowling had Nguyen Thanh Pho, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Yen, Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen; muay had Truong Quoc Hung.

SEA Games 29 was a great success to Binh Duong sports, when Binh Duong athletes excellently got 2 gold medals, 4 bronze medals. Specifically, 2 gold medals belonged to Nguyen Minh Phung, weight class of over 75kg; Nguyen Minh Phung and Nguyen Thanh Duy, Ho Quang Vu in men’s Kumite event. 4 bronze medals of Nguyen Thanh Duy, weight class 60kg; Ly Hoang Nam, individual and men’s category; Truong Quoc Hung, weight class 71kg.

To achieve these results, coaches and athletes made great efforts in training and competition. The athletes have brought glory to the province. This is the pride of Binh Duong sport. The achievement record is also a motivation for provincial athletes to make further efforts and reap achievements for the province.

- In order not rest on our laurels, what are Binh Duong’s orientations for provincial sports in the future, sir?

- In my opinion, Binh Duong sport’ development was contributed by the attention of provincial leaders, departments to good incentives and facilities. Especially the reward after each season has encouraged athletes very much. According to rewarding regulations, athletes competing and winning prizes at Southeast Asian or the World’s games will be rewarded by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In Binh Duong, in addition to rewards of the central, the province always has another reward equal to the amount of central’s reward for athletes and coaches.

In recent years, apart from investment in infrastructure and organization of tournaments from the central and provincial budget, enterprises and units have also joined hands for sports activities. An example of socialization of sports is football, volleyball, tennis, bicycles, and golf. These five sports have changed the face of Binh Duong sport, such as Binh Duong football was national champion four times, tennis players Ly Hoang Nam is a well-known athlete of the world. After Ly Hoang Nam, tennis also has some good potential players. We also have a women's bicycling team that have topped competitions. Binh Duong has also developed mountain biking and achieved high achievements in national championships. Binh Duong is also developing a men's cycling team and is calling for the sponsorship of businesses to improve the quality of men's cycling.

In addition, Binh Duong sport is also supported by departments, branches and Binh Duong Radio and Television Station, enterprises such as Becamex IDC and Biwase to organize national sports tournaments, such as international bikes, international television football, international billiards, international tennis tournament. Besides, provincial leaders also pay attention, create conditions for Binh Duong athletes to compete in foreign competitions to get more experiences. These factors have helped Binh Duong sport to develop in a stable manner corresponding to the province’s development pace.
