Restructuring towards improving added value

The objective of the Plan No.388 is to make restructuring of agricultural sector towards the growth of urban, hi-tech and ecological agricultural models in association with tourism development in the southern region of the province. In the northern region, the province has focused on developing specialized areas on planting rubber, fruit trees and safe vegetables; large-scale concentrated animal husbandry areas with hi-tech application in association with value chain-based processing and consumption. The province has also attached special importance to agricultural promotion activities for better development.

Under the Plan No.388, Binh Duong’s agricultural production has been invested at a larger scale with economic efficiency enhanced. So far, the province’s total area for cultivation with hi-tech application has reached around 2,483 hectares and there are also been 130 hectares for urban agricultural production. The province has had a total of more than 900 farms with their operational quality improved towards goods production.

In terms of animal husbandry, most farms have used new varieties with air-conditioned breeding facilities and automatic equipment, contributing to increasing economic efficiency for breeders and creating supply of safe food for customers.

Le Viet Hung, Director of Tien Hung Production-Trading Co.Ltd., the owner of Tien Hung hi-tech agricultural park in North Tan Uyen said that so far, 75% of the project have been implemented with 210,000 mother chickens, supplying the market with 130,000 eggs every day…

Whilst, Pham Manh Cuong residing in North Tan Uyen district’s Tan Dinh commune also said that his 10-hectare pig farm was set up in 2013 with 3,000-5,000 pigs. On average, Cuong can secure the annual income of VND3billion and VND5billion from his hi-tech pig farm.

Advancements in hi-tech application

Although the proportion of agriculture in the province’s economic structure has decreased, but the sector’s absolute value has been increasing. Particularly, the province’s average production value on one hectare of farming land is now VND 91million, up more than 54% compared to 2010.

Tran Thanh Co, who is well-known as the “king of orange” in North Tan Uyen district’s Hiem commune said that thanks to application of hi-tech advancements, his family can secure some hundreds of million in profit on each hectare of orange. In recent 3 years, each hectare of orange out of the season can bring his family a source of profit amounting to VND1billion.

According to Nguyen Tan Binh, Director of provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the local agricultural sector over the past time carried out a wide range of support programs for farmers, thereby creating favorable conditions for them to actively apply sci-tech advancements in production for hi-economic efficiency. Over the past nine months, the province’s total area for hi-tech and urban agricultural production surged 16% and 21% compared to the corresponding period last year, respectively. The rate of using new varieties with high quality and yield reached 80%-100% and there were 100% of planting perennial tree-planting area mechanized in care phase…

Binh Duong’s agricultural sector has set a target of strengthening restructuring of plants-animals and application of sci-tech advancements for better efficiency and productivity. Accordingly, regarding cultivation, the province will attach special importance to fostering orchards along Dong Nai and Saigon rivers in association with ecological tourism. For orchards in the northern region of the province, the province will be developed in association with processing industry.

The province will promote animal husbandry towards disease-free areas and environmental protection. All results done in restructuring of agriculture along with acceleration of hi-tech application in production over the past time will be a lever for the process of increasing the value of the local agricultural sector.
