Bring smiles to unfortunate people

Update: 14-12-2018 | 11:26:27

IL Woong Cleft Lip and Palate Foundation has finished its 24th operation course for people of maxillofacial defects at Provincial General Hospital. Every time when this surgical delegation comes to Binh Duong, they bring new smiles, create more confidence for poor people...

To be filled with happiness

In facial implant surgery, small patients who have recently undergone surgery are taken care at Odonto-Stomatology Ward. Happiness on face of their family members proved the great meaning of this program. Mai Thi Ha, mother of a young child who has undergone surgery, said: "From birth, my baby has a lip deformity. My husband and I were very sad and worried. Thanks to this program, my child was examined and got operation performed by Korean doctors. From now on, my child will grow up more confidently and no longer feels ashamed of his disability..."

This was the second time that Lam Dien Thien, 24 years old, in Cu Chi District (Ho Chi Minh City) came to this program. "I had uneven lips at birth. Korean doctors performed a surgery to correct my lips, I feel very happy now. The doctors are those who gave birth to me for the second time, helped me to be more confident, make friends with many people. I am very grateful to Korean doctors, to the hospital for allowing me to participate in this program.. "

A meaningful program

This was the 24th time that IL Woong Cleft Lip and Palate Foundation came to Provincial General Hospital for this program. Dr. Van Quang Tan, Director of Provincial General Hospital, said that this year, the operation team led by Professor Choi Jin Young continued to carry out a cooperative program of surgical operation at Provincial General Hospital. After more than one week, the delegation performed surgery for 30 patients, including 4 patients with oral clefts, 9 patients with lip openings, 14 patients of aesthetic scar repair and 3 other surgeries. All patients after surgery have a good recovery.

Professor Choi Jin Young, Head of the surgical delegation, said: "We have run this program for 24 years, because every time we come to Binh Duong, we feel like home here, work in our own hospital, and perform operations for our own patients. Especially, we received the support from Provincial People's Committee, Department of Health and doctors of Binh Duong General Hospital. During 24 years, we performed many successful operations and we are proud to bring happy smiles to them”.

It is evident that from these surgeries, unfortunate patients are able to integrate confidently into the community. In particular, among those patients, many ones were older but had no surgery at all. Until this program opened, they got successful surgery and were so happy. Many young children were also brought to this program by their parents. "This time, I met a patient, who had surgery three years ago. When they heard about us, they came and brought flowers to thank us for their successful operation. It was one of the happiest times when we performed this program, patients still remember the doctor after 3 years. And many other students and children have returned to school, do not feel ashamed anymore. All these things have encouraged us so much, urging us to come to Vietnam every year to give surgeries", said Professor Choi Jin Young.

We cannot mention all patients’ happiness of this program. Hopefully, this program would last forever so that more and more unlucky people would get their smile again from skillful hands and enthusiasm of Korean doctors and Binh Duong General Hospital in this program.
