A 280-member delegation from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) including 229 cheer-team members and 26 taekwondo demonstrators arrived in the Republic of Korea (RoK) on February 7 to participate in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, reported Yonhap news agency.

The delegation, headed by DPRK Sports Minister Kim Il-guk, also includes four officials from the National Olympic Committee and 21 journalists.

Meanwhile, a high-ranking delegation of the DPRK led by Parliament Head Kim Yong-nam is scheduled to pay a three-day official visit to the RoK starting February 9. According to the agenda, Kim Yong-nam will attend the opening ceremony of the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics and a match of the unified Korean women’s hockey team, as well as a performance of the DPRK’s art delegation.

On February 6, the Mangyongbong 92 ship carrying 140 members of the DPRK’s Samjiyon Orchestra docked at the Mukho port of the RoK. The orchestra is slated to perform in the southern Gangneun city and Seoul capital of the RoK on February 8 and 11, respectively.

The DPRK asked for oil supplies after the ship arrived and the RoK was reviewing the request, spokesman of the RoK’s Unification Ministry Baik Tae-hyun said on February 7. The vessel is also being used to accommodate the art delegation.

The DPRK and RoK athletes and officials will march together at the opening ceremony of the Winter Games, the fourth time at Olympics, on February 9.
