According to reports, the current growth rate of domestic paper industry is about 10% / year; paper industry's capacity is about 2 million tons / year, nearly 20 times higher than 20 years ago. As for the packaging industry, a representative of Vietnam Packaging Association (VINPAS) said that there were currently about 2,000 enterprises operating in the industry, of which plastic packaging industry had the fastest growth rate, about 15% / year.

For example, PET plastic bottles with big brands such as Tan Tien Plastic, Rang Dong Plastic ... dominate the market of environmentally friendly plastic packaging; while paper packaging group for the dairy market, the market share mostly is on corporations such as Tetra Pak (Sweden), Combibloc (Germany) etc. because of high technology requirements. However, operations of domestic packaging enterprises in general are still at small scale, with low levels, little capital, and very difficult to access loans... Therefore, the application of cleaner production is an indispensable direction to help packaging businesses reach more customers, especially when the trend of green consumption is the choice of customers around the globe.

Trần Đỗ Hoài Bảo, Director of He Vi Production Trading Joint Stock Company (Ben Cat Town), said that the climate change situation was increasingly harsh and difficult to forecast, land and water degradation, declining forest resources, widespread environmental pollution ... are threatening our living environment. Therefore, countries need to together search for renewable materials and switch to safe and environmentally friendly production methods. Consumers now have a very good awareness of social responsibility, thus there are also increasing requirements for manufacturers.

Mr. Bảo said that the domestic packaging industry is aiming to become more and more environmentally friendly. Currently, many packaging companies in the province develop their own packaging solutions that can be reused. The development of "green" packaging not only brings about ecological efficiency, limits pollution but also contributes to help business brand name become better for consumers.

Pollution control is an approach after the problem has arisen, while cleaner production is proactive, based on the prediction and prevention. By reducing waste and pollution through cleaner production, raw material and energy consumption will be reduced.
