Farmers in Phu Giao actively get involved in production-business

The emulation movement of “Good farmers in production and business” has become a main movement of Phu Giao district’s Farmers Association. Its vigorous development has contributed to forming up many effective models in line with the local real situation.

Phung Van Thuc, a farmer in Phu Giao district’sTam Lap commune is very successful with a model of breeding pigs, “sac” fish, tortoises. The model has been developed by him during the past 20 years.

20 years ago, he left Long An for Binh Duong to set himself up in business. Initially, he got involved in developing a 10-hectare rubber plantation and then made production expansion thanks to VND260million in loan from the district’s Farmers Association. He also bravely fostered his model of breeding pigs and fish. The district’s Farmers’ Association helped him visit effective models in other localities. In addition, he learnt new techniques in breeding various fish from aquaculture engineers.

On average, he can now secure more than 60 tons of fish per crop. He has also got involved in breeding pigs and tortoises, creating a compound animal husbandry model. It is known that the model brings him the annual income of nearly one billion VND.

Many other role-models have also appeared in the district from the emulation movement of “Good farmer in production-business”. They include the model of breeding orchids and processing dry “sac” fish of Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep in Phuoc Vinh township; the model of raising swallows, porcupines and trading in fertilizer of Nguyen Hoang Hieu in An Long commune…

Also from the emulation movement, tens of farmers in the district won the title of good farmer at central level and there were also thousands of farmers recognized as good ones at provincial level annually. So far, many farming households have fostered large-scale models with the annual income of millions of VND to billions of VND, generating jobs for hundreds of the local laborers.

Thanks to the efforts by Farmers Associations at all levels, the emulation movement of “good farmer in production-business” in the district absorbed numerous farmers over the past time, thereby promoting the local agricultural sector, especially hi-tech agricultural models.

Trinh Duc Dung, Chairman of Phu Giao district’s Farmers Association said that over the past time, the association organized seminars, training courses on how to use pesticide, prevent diseases in plants, animals…; coordinated with provincial Center for Farmers’ Vocational Training and Support Services to organize vocational training courses on cultivation and animal husbandry for farmers; created favorable conditions for farmers to get loans for economic development, rising up out of poverty; mobilized firms, well-off households to offer support in terms of capital, nurslings, breeding animals, working days to needy members…
