Festival for Khmer young workers

Thuan An town’s Binh Hoa ward is a locality with young workers living away from home, especially Khmer ones. Over the past years, the local government and mass organizations paid attention of taking care of the material and spiritual lives of Khmer young workers.

The majority of Khmer young workers living and working in Thuan An town’s Binh Hoa ward in particular and Binh Duong province in general are not able to return home for the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year festival, one of the most important festivals of the year for the Khmer people.

Knowing the above situation, Binh Hoa ward’s Youth Federation has just coordinated with its branch 30B/4 in Dong An 1 quarter to organize the festival for Khmer young workers. The festival took place very animatedly with activities imbrued with the traditional cultural features of Khmer people. An awards ceremony of the football tournament for young workers was also organized together with an art performance exchange with the local youths…

Luu Thi Thuy Linh, Vice-Secretary of Binh Hoa ward’s Youth Union said: “The ward is now home to nearly 200 Khmer young workers. Hence, organizing the the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year festival aims to take care of the spiritual and materials of the local Khmer young workers, thereby contributing to strengthening the national great unity bloc. This is also an activity in celebration of the 11^th Youth Union congress of Binh Hoa ward for the 2017-2022 tenure”.

At the festival, Thuan An town’s Youth Federation also presented 10 gifts worth VND300,000 each to young workers with difficult circumstances. According to Thach Na, Head of the 30B/4 sub-union for young workers in Dong An 1 quarter, he and other Khmer young workers were very happy when the local government and mass organizations paid attention to organizing the traditional festival, thereby helping them feel more secure in life and raise their awareness of rights and duties…

It is known that the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year festival is annually held by Binh Hoa ward’s Youth Union. This year’s festival took place when youths and people in the whole country are eager for activities in celebration of the 42^nd anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Unification (April 30, 1975-April 30, 2017), International Labor Day (May 1) and Youth Union congresses at all levels for the 2017-2022 tenure.
