Getting thriving from effective economic models

TDM city now has more than 2,527 hectares of farming land, accounting for 21.3% of total natural land. After three years of implementing the emulation movement of “good farmer in production and business”, the city had a total of 4,283 farming households winning the “good farmer” title at all levels.

New ways

Le Van Hung, Chairman of TDM city’s Farmers Association said that the emulation movement of “good farmer in production and business” has promoted the local agriculture with the formation of specialized areas on vegetables, fruit trees and animal husbandry, actively contributing to the local shift of economic structure. Through the emulation movement, many collectives and individuals were honored by the Central Committee of Vietnam Farmers Association, provincial People’s Committee and the city’s People’s Committee over the past three years.

Also from the emulation movement, many urban and hi-tech agricultural models with hi-economic efficiency have loomed large across the city. They include the model of raising ornamental fish by Vo Tuan Kiet in Chanh Nghia with the annual income of VND1.2billion; the model of planting fruit trees by Dao Van Quy and Do Ngoc Huy in Tan An ward with the annual income of VND400million…Besides, there are many models supplying materials for processing industry, effectively applying sci-tech advancements, new varieties into agricultural production…

According to leader of the city’s Farmers Association, the emulation movement of “good farmer in production and business” is the foundation for the locality to promote agricultural production, contributing to decreasing poor households, increasing well-off ones and strengthening rural construction-urban rejuvenation.

Active support for farmers

Since 2004, TDM city’s Farmers Association and its branches have coordinated with sectors and the Bank for Social Policies to provide loans in association with making sci-tech transfer in animal husbandry and cultivation for farmers. Accordingly, the Bank for Social Policies and the city’s Support Fund for Farmers helped 445 farmers get preferential loans with more than US$38billion. The city’s Farmers Association and its branches also mobilized members to help each other with a total value of more than VND4.42billion. Noticeably, the emulation movement assisted 54 out of 70 farming households in the city escape poverty under the province’s poverty line.

The city’s Farmers Association and its branches over the past years made efforts in improving their operational contents and forms. So far, the association has also set up 3 cooperative groups with 28 members, contributing to fostering the local agriculture.

Nguyen Thanh Hao, Head of the Farmers Association branch of quarter 2 in Tan An ward said that under the emulation movement, the branch has always created favorable conditions for members to get access to sci-tech advancements and apply them into agricultural production while giving vocational training for them. It has till now established a group linking orchards…Upon this, orchards in the quarter have reached high yield with stable selling prices, helping enhance the lives of the local farmers.

In the period of 2017-2019, the city’s Farmers Association will promote patriotic emulation movements among officials and members; boost propaganda work to raise officials and members’ awareness of the Party and State’s policies and laws regarding agriculture and rural development, home based economic development…All will help arouse resources among the local farmers to foster urban and hi-tech agricultural models. The association will be also proactive to team up with relevant sectors to guide farmers how to apply sci-tech advancements in production, actively contributing to the local socio-economic development.

It is known that during the period of 2014-2016, the city’s Farmers Association and its branches coordinated with relevant agencies to organize 85 training courses on sci-tech transfer in cultivation and animal husbandry, 43 seminars and 37 trips to effective models…for 6,624 officials and members.
