Goods still abundant with stable prices after Tet

On February 17 (January 6 of lunar calendar), more than 50% of small traders and units at province-based traditional markets have resumed operation. The atmosphere at many retail markets has begun being animated with plentiful goods.

Markets operating early

Apart from fresh products like flowers, fruits, vegetables…, poultry-cattle meat, frozen and dried foodstuff are on display a lot at many big markets, namely Thu Dau Mot, Lai Thieu, Di An and many small ones around residential areas crowded with people. Many small traders have bravely increased supply of goods at people’s demand after Tet.

According to Mrs.Thao, a small trader at Lai Thieu market, the supply of goods at the market is still abundant, but there is a slight increase in price, due to additional fees on increase. Particularly, beef ham is VND300,000 per kg; beef fillet is VND380,000 per kg; cuttles are between VND350,000 and VND380,000 per kg; tiger shrimps are at VND380,000 per kg. At many other markets in North Tan Uyen district, the prices of beef fillet, live free-range chicken and coloured-feather chicken are at VND290,000 per kg, VND95,000 per kg, VND65,000 per kg…, respectively. Beef is from VND260,000 to VND300,000 per kg at My Phuoc market in Ben Cat town.

Similarly, the purchasing power of fruits, vegetables at province-based traditional markets after Tet remain high. The prices of cabbage, cucumber, Dat Lat tomato, carrot…are at VND20,000, VND25,000, VND32,000 per kg, respectively…The Nguyen Tieu festival is approaching, so the prices of fruits remain high. The first-grade tangerines are sold at VND60,000 per kg; Hoa Loc mangoes are at VND150,000 per kg; dragon fruits at VND40,000-VND50,000 per kg; green-skin pomelos at VND50,000-VND55,000 per kg…

Weak purchasing power at supermarkets

Province-based supermarkets, trade centers, convenient stores like Big C, Co.op Mart Lotte Mart, Aeon, Family Mart, Vinmart…have also resumed operation after Tet. But, the purchasing power of commodities there at the current period is around 50% in comparison to that of the previous year. According to Thai Thanh Nhan, Head of province-based Big C supermarket’s Food Department said that the supermarket’s total revenue with 45 days before, during the Tet holiday 2021 only got 15% of that of the same period last year. “In the coming time, the supermarket will continue strongly reducing the prices of foodstuff in order to improve its revenue amid the complicated development of Covid-19 pandemic”, Mr.Nhan said.

Other markets like Lotte, Aeon Mall, Co.opMart also did not fulfill the set business targets. They have attached special importance to implementing home delivery services, aiming to join hands in Covid-19 prevention and control. Tong Khanh Van, Deputy Director of Binh Duong Co.opMart said that although the supermarket’s purchasing power is not high in comparison with that of the previous years, but the supermarket has always planned to supply goods in case of the complicated development of the pandemic. Saigon Co.op has also worked with providers to stabilize goods ‘prices with quality ensured.

According to provincial Department of Industry and Trade, province-based enterprises well ensured supply of Tet goods in association with Covid-19 prevention and control. The prices of goods before and after the Tet holiday 2021 remained stable with abundant supply at people’s demand.
