Handicraft village’s club house: A solution to promoting traditional products of Binh Duong

Update: 06-11-2018 | 11:24:47

Binh Duong has 9 traditional handicraft villages, from food production to handicrafts and household appliances. In recent years, the consumption of handicraft products has encountered many difficulties due to many both objective and subjective reasons. The birth of Dat Thu Handicraft village’s club house (within provincial Cultural Cinema House, 30-4 Street, Phu Hoa Ward, Thu Dau Mot City) is a solution to promote, introduce products of craft villages to customers.

Young visitors enjoy ceramic products displayed at Dat Thu handicraft village’s club house.

The attraction of traditional villages

Nguyen Duc Minh, Director of provincial Tourism Promotion Center, said domestic and foreign tourists to Binh Duong had been introduced to traditional handicraft villages. These villages really interest visitors; they want to experience and take part in the production process of these products, and then buy traditional products of Binh Duong as souvenirs. At trade fairs organized in and outside the country, the center displayed and sold traditional products of the province to tourists.

The whole province has 9 traditional handicraft villages, such as Phu An girdle cake village (Ben Cat town), woodcarving village (Phu Tho ward, Thu Dau Mot City), Tuong Binh Hiep lacquer village (Thu Dau Mot City), wooden clog village (Thuan An town)... Among these, only Tuong Binh Hiep lacquer village is developing well, thanks to the application of modern technologies and the combination of production and brand promotion.

As an insider, Nguyen Minh Trung, owner of Sau Deo wooden clog production establishment (Quarter 6, Phu Tho Ward, Thu Dau Mot City), said: "Currently, many craftsmen in Binh Duong do their trade because of their passion, waiting for some regular customers to buy our products, but we do not know how to introduce, advertise products. Moreover, our capital is limited, villages are located remotely, so the visitor number is gradually decreasing”.

To bring traditional villages to urban areas

Dat Thu handicraft village’s club house was funded by Kim Hoang Hiep Joint Stock Company. This is a socialization model of preservation and promotion of traditional products combined with tourism under the guideline of Provincial People's Committee. Nguyen Buu Doan Thanh, owner of Dat Thu handicraft village’s club house, said her company’s advantage was that they had many partners and customers, so it was very useful for product introduction, trade promotion attached to developing tourism of traditional trade villages in form of socialization. The club house does not weigh the profit factor but turn towards connecting, creating joy and satisfaction for everyone.

At the club house, each displaying space introduces products of each village such as fine arts, ceramics, and traditional cuisine. The products displayed at the club house are also assisted by manufacturers, so customers may experience the actual production right in the club house.

Mr. Trung said, many production facilities of handicraft products in the province must suspend their business, because they could not find markets for their products. With a handicraft club house established under the socialization policy of the State, receiving supports in product promotion, craftsmen like him were much encouraged. In the coming time, the club house should cooperate with functional agencies and localities to continue propagate its activities for handicraft business households to send their products to display at the house, create more chances of product consumption and promotion.
