The week represents the first time that the department has chosen to implement trade promotion activities to introduce Vietnamese goods in Thailand.

The event, scheduled to be held at Big C Rajdamri Supercenter in the Thai capital of Bangkok, aims to expand the export markets for domestic goods and introduce a range of key products from HCM City.

Nguyen Huynh Trang, deputy director of the HCM City Department of Industry and Trade, said the event will provide a good venue for firms to boost trade links, expand markets, and seek potential partners.

Therefore, the promotional week will serve to build a network of agents and distributors of goods in addition to helping to devise market development strategies for Vietnamese goods that can be implemented in Thailand, said Ms. Trang.

It is hoped that through the promotional activities, both Thai consumers and international visitors will gain more insights into products from Vietnam.

With regard to prospects for export to the Thai market, Phidsanu Pongwatana, CEO of MM Mega Market chain which is owned by BJC Group, said there is great potential for Vietnamese farm produce, fisheries, fruit and vegetable products, and delicacies, noting that Thai consumers are keen on processed products that originate from the nation.

Vietnam represents a key market for MM Mega Market to expand into as the company has devised a number of strategies to attract Vietnamese customers by launching high-quality and gaining insights into unique products that can boost exports.

Over the past time, a number of Vietnamese goods such as dragon fruit and sweet potato have been exported to Thailand through MM Mega Market and have received positive responses from consumers.

Two seminars are to be held during the Week of Vietnamese goods in Thailand 2019, providing ample opportunity for businesses to meet with and seek partners to introduce their goods to the market.
