Local economy gains stable development with social welfare ensured

The 9th provincial People’s Council yesterday opened  its 4th session, in attendance of Pham Van Canh, Permanent Vice-Secretary of provincial Party Committee; Tran Thanh Liem, Vice-Secretary of provincial Party Committee, Chairman of provincial People’s Committee; former leaders of the province over periods; deputies of the 9th provincial People’s Council together with representatives of sectors, departments, agencies, units and localities in the province.

Economic growth

In the first half of 2017, the province’s total Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) value reached a 7,85% growth compared to the same period last year. Of these, industrial manufacture-construction rose by 8.41%; services by 7.61% and agro-forestry-fisheries by 3.76%.

The province’s index of industrial production (IIP) surged 8.53% against the same period last year. The province’s total retail sales revenue of commodities and services was estimated at more than VND80.04trillion, up 20.2% while total value of agro-forestry and fisheries production reached more than VND5.57trillion, up 3.8% over the same period last year.

Also during the period, the province promulgated a plan on improvement of investment attraction for the period of 2016-2020; well implemented tasks, measures to improve the local investment climate, support star-up businesses…All helped the province continue being a bright spot nationwide in investment attraction. Particularly, the province absorbed more than VND20.8trillion in domestic investment capital from 2,527 newly-registered projects and 469 extra-ones, up 39.7% compared to the corresponding period last year. The whole province has so far had a total of 28,075 domestic investment projects totaling more than VND211.47trillion.

The province also absorbed additional US$1.671billion in FDI capital or 119.4% of the yearly plan. Till now, there have been 2,939 FDI projects with a total registered capital of US$27.43billion.

In addition, the province’s export turnover secured US$13.08billion, up 16.7% compared to the same period last year. This result came from the efforts by the province in taking measures on trade promotion in a synchronous way…The province also spent more than VND29.88trillion on investment for development, a year-on-year increase of 10.9%; attached special importance to managing and building urban infrastructure facilities; commenced construction of some projects to deal with traffic jams; restored urban order and made urban rejuvenation; focused on building technical infrastructure facilities in the rural region, contributing to enhancing the quality of life of people, especially those living newly-style rural communes.

Social welfare ensured

The province effectively mobilized many resources to take good care of social policy beneficiary families; paid more attention to education-training, job creation and public healthcare… over the past six months.

At the session, delegates also spoke highly of cultural-art activities organized by the province during the period. Many cultural-art activities, comprising of the ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of Binh Duong’s re-establishment, the 2nd National “Don Ca Tai Tu” (Southern folk music) Festival… took place very animatedly. Additionally, the province well realized a task of preserving historical relics…

Delegates also petitioned provincial People’s Council to instruct the implementation of measures against crimes; strengthen models to prevent crimes and defend national security; boost application of information technology in State management in association with administrative reform…

Measures to promote economic growth

At the opening session, delegates also petitioned provincial People’s Committee to be proactive and flexible in instruction, especially implementation of the Government’s resolutions and the Prime Minister’s directives on major tasks, measures to realize 2017’s targets on economic growth while opportunely disseminating provincial People’s Council’s resolutions, striving to fulfill and exceed the set targets in all aspects in 2017.

In terms of measures for the remaining six months of the year, Mai Hung Dung, member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice-Chairman of provincial People’s Committee said that provincial People’s Committee will concentrate on drastically carrying out tasks, measures to improve the local investment climate; continue implementing a method on arrangement of State-run businesses and making equitization on the roadmap and method approved by the Prime Minister.

Provincial People’s Committee will also set up a plan to stockpile commodities, make the 2017 market price stabilization program, especially for essential commodities on Tet and great holidays; focus on basic construction; strive to fulfill the 2017 State estimates in all aspects; bend on the National Target Program on New Rural Construction for the period of 2016-2020; be proactive to take methods against epidemic diseases; accelerate State administration on land, mineral and environment; strengthen a program on urban rejuvenation and development, a project on smart city development…

Today, July 14, provincial People’s Council organizes a Q&A session; approves draft resolutions and closes its 4th session.
