Noble acts of blood donation

Update: 16-04-2021 | 19:28:35

In the voluntary blood donation movement in Ben Cat town, there were many examples that are worth commending for their many times of voluntary blood donation.

Tam and Diem always considers donating blood to save people as a noble act and actively participate in this activity.

An exemplary family of voluntary blood donation

Nguyen Van Tam and Ngo Ngoc Diem in My Phuoc ward is a salient family in local voluntary blood donation movement. Up to now, this five-member family has make voluntary blood donation more than 80 times. In which, Ms. Diem is the first blood donor and has made up to 32 times of blood donation; Mr. Tam has also donated blood 23 times.

Diem said that at the first time, she donated blood 5 months  after giving birth to her child. She found that officials of Red Cross Association at her ward faced difficulties in mobilizing people to take part in blood donation, because there were few participants in this movement. Because she had just given birth to a baby, she did not let her husband know about this. Even though she was advised by Red Cross officials not to donate blood, because she was a bit thin and had just given birth, she was determined to do this, because she felt her health conditions was fine.

Regularly after that, she continued to register whenever there was a blood donation activity at her neighborhood. She also found out about meanings of this act, she encouraged her husband and family members to join her for blood donation. Unexpectedly, what she shared received her family's support. Then her husband, her sister, little sister and nephew also register to participate in blood donation. Her daughter (14 years old this year) witnessed her parents and relatives donating blood and bringing meanings and benefits to everyone, and said that when she was old enough, she would participate in blood donation like her parents.

Since she assumed the role of Red Cross' Deputy Head of Quarter 3 (My Phuoc ward), Ms. Diem has actively encouraged neighbors to take part in blood donation to save lives with about 400 turns of participants. “From the fact that my husband and I have donated blood many times but are still healthy, I persuade neighbors that blood donation is not harmful to health. Blood donation to save people is a noble act. Therefore, people are very confident, thus every time there is a blood donation activity, many people register to donate blood”, Ms. Diem said.

To live socially responsibly

Similar to Ms. Diem, Le Thi Ai in Quarter 4, My Phuoc Ward, has repeatedly donated blood, and encouraged her husband, children and many others to join and save lives.

Ms. Ai, who is enthusiastic about social work, in 2006 started to hold the position of Red Cross Head of quarter 4. She found that Red Cross' activities are for humanitarian purposes, including the voluntary blood donation movement. Hence, in order to encourage Red Cross members to participate in this activity, Ms. Ai herself has been exemplary and actively donated her blood. She understands the meaning of "one drop of blood to give - a life to stay"; thus since 2007, she has donated blood 40 times. Her husband also perceived great meanings of what she was doing, then joined her. Up to now, her husband has also made nearly 30 blood donations. After that, two of her children also participated in blood donation, each of them more than 20 times. She saw many difficult circumstances on TV, in which patients needed a blood transfusion, while the blood reserve was scarce. She realized that blood donation saved patients and herself felt better, so she regularly takes part in blood donation 2-3 times a year.

Ms. Ai and her husband receive many certificates of merit of voluntary blood donation.

The example of Ms. Ai's spread among the community. Many people in her neighborhood happily take part in voluntary blood donation. Therefore, her Red Cross branch always meets the target number of blood donors. Up to now, Ms. Ai has mobilized more than 30 people to participate in blood donation.

Ms. Ai is also an example of compassion and willingness to help people in need. She calls upon local residents to donate notebooks to students on every new school year. Each year, she alone donates 100 notebooks to poor students. Every month, Ms. Ai also encourages people helping each other and needy people.

It is known that she registered to donate her body to medicine after her death, and also encouraged 2 other people to register donating their bodies. With their active contributions to blood donation movement, Ms. Ai's family were honored by all levels as an exemplary blood donating family. Particularly, Ms. Ai herself has been repeatedly honored by the town and Provincial People's Committee for many participations in voluntary blood donation. In 2016, she was honored by Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee as an outstanding blood donor of the whole nation.
