North Tan Uyen grows with strengths

On 29 Nov, Trần Văn Nam, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the provincial National Assembly delegation, had a meeting with people in North Tan Uyen district. Farmers in North Tan Uyen district expressed their opinions: Should the province needs to establish a citrus trees' association of the province to protect the interests of consumers, as well as build effective communication channels?

Many efficient models

Thái Thanh Bình, Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairman of People's Committee, informed the delegates and people: At present, the district's total area of perennial crops is 23,806 ha; fruit production area is 2,439 ha; The area of citrus fruit trees is over 2,300 ha, of which nearly 200 ha are VietGAP and concentrated organic certified in Tan My, Hieu Liem and Tan Dinh communes. Besides, the district has 1.71 million chickens and over 45,000 pigs raised by modern technology...

Mr. Bình said that in the district area, there were more and more large-scale agricultural production models applying advanced technology invested by people, especially in the field of animal husbandry and citrus tree planting. This initially brought high economic efficiency, gradually contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of local people. Technical infrastructure for agricultural production, such as: Traffic system, electricity, irrigation canals, bridges, sewage... were invested by the District People's Committee, creating favorable conditions for people in agricultural production. In particular, the district was granted collective trademark for North Tan Uyen orange, pomelo, and mandarin by Intellectual Property Department under Ministry of Science and Technology.

Đoàn Minh Chiến, who has been building a fruit-growing farm there since 1984, said that with the support of authorities at all levels and sectors, his integrated farm has been developing, bringing high income for his family, especially citrus growing areas. Mr. Chiến further informed that, nowadays in North Tan Uyen district, farmers are very active; strive to apply new technologies into production such as organic, microbiological technology. This brings high productivity, guaranteed product quality and environmental protection on the farm. His own farm achieved the 3rd VietGAP standard and is continuing to produce according to organic technology; Revenue from the farm is guaranteed. "If we continue to receive attention and support intechnical infrastructure to serve production, farms in the district area will have opportunities to expand its scale, production efficiency, and product quality," said Mr. Chiến.

To apply modern science and technology

In addition to optimistic things in agricultural production, many people attending the conference raised problems to Provincial Party Secretary  on agricultural production and high-tech agricultural production; at the same time, proposed that the province should pay attention to investment in infrastructure for agricultural production; planning for hi-tech agricultural production zones, organic agriculture, as well as supporting policies on capital, science and technology, improving goods quality, promotion of products and consumption markets of agricultural products. In particular, the province and district leadership should build seed supply centers, models of hi-tech agricultural production; establish citrus trees' association...

Võ Văn Huy, farmer of Binh My commune, said: “Although citrus tree areas in the district have developed strongly, we have certain difficulties in consumption market, infrastructure for production, quality control of goods, and promotion of agricultural products. The province needs to establish a citrus trees' association to protect consumers' interests, as well as build efficient communication channels. Meanwhile, Nguyễn Văn Thanh, farmer of Tan Dinh commune, commented that there should be many meetings and high-tech agricultural production projects with the participation of people, as well as pilot models of agricultural products applying high-tech production in the district for farmers to visit and learn experience.

Agriculture is a solid rear

Mr. Nam and heads of agencies and industries noted all recommendations of people and farmers.  Mr. Nam emphasized: The province's orientation is to invest heavily in industrial development but cannot neglect agricultural development. In the development process for many years, agriculture has been a solid prop to ensure the social security of the province. Agriculture must be a strong foundation for industrial development. North Tan Uyen is a very important raw material area of the province in hi-tech agricultural production, especially citrus trees.

The Provincial Party Secretary said that agricultural growth in North Tan Uyen district must be associated with high technology application and environmental protection. In particular, citrus production areas will continue to be maintained and developed towards sustainability. Mr. Nam also directed North Tan Uyen district and departments to continue planning and reviewing agricultural production areas in North Tan Uyen district; build good infrastructure for efficient agricultural production; continue to develop and review policies to support agricultural production; calling for investment in agricultural production. In particular, farmers need to change their minds, turn towards a modern and scientific agriculture; promote the application of scientific and technical advances into production, selectively and inherit effective traditional agricultural production experiences towards sustainable development...
