Update: 02-07-2021 | 10:44:56

Although the number of people to supermarkets, trade centers in the province for direct shopping has decreased, there is a twofold increase in the number of online shoppers here amid the complicated developments of Covid-19 pandemic.

Convenience, safety

Huynh Thi Xuan Yen, a resident in TDM city’s Chanh My ward said that after being guided, she has now mastered how to buy goods online as well as choosing necessary food and goods at good prices. “Just going to the apps, I can easily select product groups, and then choose food in each group such as meat, seafood, vegetables, fruits... and use payment via cards. In recent days, each order has also been given a promotion of several tens of thousands of dong, which is more profitable and safer than shopping at the market", said Yen.

Recently, spontaneous markets have stopped operating, so Nguyen Ngoc Chau, a resident in Hiep Thanh ward has began learning how to order goods by phone at a supermarket near her house and pay by bank transfer. "Normally I think that going to the market to buy fresh food is delicious, but now goods purchased online are also very good. Goods delivery is very fast with enthusiastic staff, so I am very satisfied," said Ms. Chau.

Orders soar

Possibly speaking, since the pandemic has resurged, people’s needs for daily consumption have changed a lot. The trend of shopping online has increased sharply, due to concerns about the spreading of the pandemic. According to Thai Thanh Nhan, Head of Big C Binh Duong Supermarket’s  Fresh Food Department, orders by phone and online at the supermarket have doubled, even tripled compared to the previous period.

“Buyers are also spending more money on buying essential foods. Compared to the first period of social distancing in early April 2020, many housewives have adapted to online shopping. Just staying at home, picking up their phone, customers can order goods and they will be delivered to their home. Therefore, we always have to be busy for preparation because online orders come in a lot ", said Mr.Nhan.

Similarly, Nguyen Thi Hong Khanh, Director of Co.op Mart Binh Duong II Supermarket said that the number of customers coming to the supermarket for direct shopping is low while the number of orders via phone and online has increased by 2-3 times than the previous period. The value of shopping orders is also very high with the average level of VND2million and 3 million VND per bill. This shows that the trend of customers choosing to shop online is increasing in order to limit going out.

Whilst, Aeonmall Binh Duong has also accepted orders via hotline number, Aeon VN app, Aeon Eshop, GrapMart, helping consumers easily have fresh and delicious food without having to shop directly... Accordingly, the number of online orders at the trade center has also increased by over two figures in the last 2 weeks.

Anticipating this fact, retailers across the province have prepared a very diverse source of goods with the amount of agricultural products and pork increasing by 50 - 100%, contributing to offsetting decrease in quantity, due to some markets temporarily stopping operation for Covid-19 prevention and control. Mrs. Khanh said that with abundant supply, the prices of many consumer goods in this period at Binh Duong Co.opmart remain stable and tend to decrease slightly under Saigon Co.op system’s policy of keeping prices. In addition, the supermarket has also been proactive to launch its own promotion programs for customers.

It is known that together with other retailers, Big C system has also worked with fresh goods suppliers, actively increasing stockpile for these items by 40%-60% in quantity. In addition, the units have always paid attention to strengthening inspection over input product quality in order to deliver good products to customers with food safety and hygiene ensured. During the pandemic period, many consumers have also quickly switched their traditional shopping habits to online shopping, contributing to promoting e-commerce.
