Sci-tech sector contributes to building Binh Duong smart city

A project on Binh Duong smart city development was approved by provincial People’s Committee in November 2016. And the province’s sci-tech sector plays an important role in the realization of sci-tech issues pertaining to the project. Possibly speaking, the sector implemented many programs, plans on Binh Duong smart city building over the past time.

Putting forth solutions for smart city development

Binh Duong smart city project is based on the “Triple Helix” model of the Netherlands’ Eindhoven City which involves a partnership among the State, enterprises, scientists and schools. Accordingly, Binh Duong aims at first basic foundations for hi-tech services, production and smart urban planning by 2021.

Sci-tech research at Eastern International University’s Fablab

Upon this, the province’s sci-tech sector actively coordinated with relevant units to organize conferences seeking solutions for smart city development, namely the Hackathon contest 2016, the 2nd provincial sci-tech exhibition 2017…, over the past time.

Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Director of provincial Department of Science-Technology (DoST) said that one of highlights done by the sector in the framework of the 16th World Technopolis Association (WTA) summit was to host the 2018 Global Innovation Forum with focus on challenges in smart city development, strategies on smart city infrastructure development, innovative ecosystem building…The sector also kicked off an idea battle for smart city building…

Innovative startup eco-system development

Provincial DoST is one of the province’s major units in the Binh Duong smart city project. So far, provincial DoST has implemented tasks relating to the project, including opening 3 training courses on innovative startup for cadres; making support policies for startup ecosystem for Youth Union officials, members, lecturers at schools in the province…

The approval of provincial People’s Committee’s project on “National Program to Support Innovative Startup Ecosystem by 2025 in the province between 2017-2020 is seen as the foundation for the province to effective carry out innovation startup ecosystem, promoting enterprises’ innovation, thereby contributing to fostering the local sci-tech market via the Triple Helix” model.

Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Director of provincial DoST said that the model of “Becamex breeding ground for enterprises” at Eastern International University has so far brought into full play its effectiveness. Provincial DoST has also implemented construction of provincial Centre for Community Initiatives and Start-up Support, which is expected to be put into operation in Q3, 2019.

Additionally, provincial DoST has implemented coworking spaces at provincial Centre for Community Initiatives and Start-up Support, Becamex breeding ground for enterprises while advocating universities to develop Feblabs. According to leader of provincial DoST, Eastern International University’s Fablab system has been put into operation. Provincial DoST is also working with Thu Dau Mot University to realize a Fablab project with applied biology.

Speaking at a seminar on “architectural development for Binh Duong smart city”, Mr.Cuong said that provincial DoST will coordinate with provincial Department of Information and Communications to set data architecture for smart city management, aiming to boost sci-tech application in socio-economic aspects, especially in Binh Duong smart city development.
