Songs of learning and following President Ho Chi Minh

President Ho Chi Minh and his life have become resourceful inspiration to artists and performers. The songs themed under the movement of learning and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example have been used as competitive tools in the arena of culture and ideology.

Diversity of works and authors

Along with theme of homeland, nation, and humans, the theme of learning and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral examples has been upheld by members and composers of Binh Duong Provincial Sub-Association of Music. Namely are the songs recently composed including “Ren luyen than the theo guong Bac Ho” (the practice of physical training by the model of Uncle Ho) by Phan Huu Ly, “Doan ta lam theo Bac” (we, the Youth’s Union, follows Uncle Ho’s teachings) by Lai Hong Xung, “Chiec ao khoac Nguoi chua cai cuc” (the coat not buttoned by Him) by Pham Minh Thuan, “Binh Duong nho loi Bac day” (Binh Duong Province in remembering Uncle Ho’s teachings) and “Cay lua Bac Ho” (the rice made by Uncle Ho) both by Mai Quang, “Thieng lieng doi dep Bac Ho” (the sacred slippers of Uncle Ho) by Nguyen Long, “Lam theo loi Bac day” (following Uncle Ho’s teachings) by Nguyen Hong, “Lam theo guong Bac Ho” (following Uncle Ho’s example) by Nguyen Quang Tam, and “Ve tham que Bac” (a visit to homeland of Uncle Ho” by Nguyen Van Luan.

Binh Duong Provincial Association of Literature and Arts currently has 22 members, of whom 4 are from VietnameseMusicAcademy. Comparing to other provinces, the composing staffs are few in quantity but high in quality. They follow the topic with great passion and pressure as they have to create different features of their works.

Upholding the purposes and meanings of the movements of composing and distributing works of literature, arts, and journalism on the topic of learning and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral examples, Binh Duong Provincial Association of Literature and Arts initiated the composing movements having 17 authors and 29 works joined in. Under evaluation of composer Vo Dong Dien, Chair of Association of Literature and Arts said: “Many quality works show deeply ideology and them of music style combined with traditional and modern features. The works have been built and performed in various competitions and shows.” In 2014, the Sub-Association of Music has organized a trip of music composition in 3 provinces of Mekong delta including Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, and Vinh Long for 13 music composers who created 26 new works with the above topic in majority.

Strong outspread

Music is slight but effective method in disseminate and education of Uncle Ho’s examples. By their own ways, the songs were derived from whatever President Ho Chi Minh had spoken, written, and worked to be accessible by listeners. However, to introduce such works is relatively hard. In fact, the topic is complex, requiring investment and devotion. And, the listeners should have deep sense of music. For the time to come, the Sub-Association of Music shall focus on the topic of learning and following President Ho Chi Minh with promotion of quality and performances to enlighten the songs amongst their audience.
