State President on visit to Vietnamese-German University

Late October 4, Truong Tan Sang, the State President, had a working visit to Vietnamese-German University. Attending the event was Pham Manh Hung, the Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Tran Van Nam, the Deputy Secretary of Binh Duong Provincial Party Committee cum Chair of Provincial People’s Committee, Tran Thanh Liem, the member of Standing Board of Provincial Party Committee cum permanent Deputy Chair of Provincial People’s Committee.

On behalf of the university, Juergen Mallon, the President of Vietnamese-German University, briefed through activities of the university. To be worthy as the brilliant researching university and high quality education programs in accordance with German partnership universities, Vietnamese-German University has implemented 7 master and 4 undergraduate programs in 5 departments including indepth scientific and technological ones. By high enrollment standards, the university attracted the best students who are encouraged by scholarship. Accordingly, 40% of undergraduate and 60% of postgraduate students have been sponsored with scholarship offered by partner universities. Currently, Vietnamese government has invested US$ 200 million from WB preferential loans into modern infrastructure covering 50.5 ha in Binh Duong Province to satisfy the teaching needs.

Addressing the working session, State President Nguyen Tan Sang said that Vietnam has been cooperating with Germany, France, UK, USA, and Japan to construct 5 major universities in the hope that those universities would improve education quality in Vietnam regarding undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Following the spirit, standards, and criteria of such programs, students of programs in Vietnam would be of equal qualifications in other nations. As for Vietnamese-German University, the construction location has been chosen to be worthy of development trend of the university. Currently, foreigner teachers and instructors are of majority; however, for the future, domestic teachers and instructors would be promoted. The work to be done within October is the signing of German authority and Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam to agree upon management of the university. It is of great expectations that Vietnamese-German University would be named in the top universities of South East Asia by the end of 2020.
