The 2nd Bach Dang Grapefruit’s Festival 2019 has many interesting activities

On 18 Jan, the second Bach Dang Grapefruit’s Festival 2019  officially opened in Bach Dang commune, Tan Uyen town. The festival brought many interesting experiences to visitors through many practical, meaningful activities.

Careful preparation

According to Tan Uyen town Office of Culture and Information, compared to the first festival in 2017, this year’s festival had a larger scale, the content was more diverse. In order for people to access information and participate in the festival, visual propagation was done by all levels and branches of the town, with nearly 600 banners placed at public locations; enhanced communication on mass media, social networks... All  preparation tasks for the opening ceremony were performed carefully.

Booths are ready to participate in the 2nd Bach Dang Grapefruit’s Festival 2019.

There were 17 units to open booths for displaying pomelos, products from pomelos, citrus fruits and other agricultural products, handicraft products. The festival had 16 adjacent culinary booths, which were very convenient for visitors. Food and drinks were served at reasonable prices; prices were listed specifically.

According to the Organizing Committee, visitors to culinary booths at the festival could enjoy traditional dishes of Southern region. In particular, Women's Unions of communes and wards of the town also served dishes and drinks made from grapefruit and other citrus fruits, such as pomelo tea, grapefruit jam, pomelo spring rolls, grapefruit salad, grapefruit juice...

According to Vo Thi Kim Bich, Chairwoman of the town Women's Union, all preparations for the festival were done carefully. The participating units registered, sent the list of dishes, and developed a specific plan in order to best serve visitors during 3 days of the festival. Food safety and hygiene work was also focused, and thoroughly disseminated among participating units to guarantee safety and hygiene from preliminary preparation, processing to preservation…

Ready to welcome guests

Nguyen Huu Tam, Vice Chairman of Farmers' Association of Bach Dang Commune, Director of Bach Dang Pomelo Cooperative, said that before the festival, the association encouraged their members to turn their pomelo orchards into places serving visitors. The selection criteria were that pomelo orchards must be developed in VietGAP direction, oriented towards organic farming; pomelo orchards should be prosperous, beautiful, uniform in terms of quality. As a result, the association selected the six best pomelo orchards.

Nguyen Minh Cong, an outstanding farmer and entrepreneur in Bach Dang commune, said that his pomelo garden was selected as the reception point for Bach Dang Grapefruit Festival 2019. His crops on Tet 2019 were harvested on an area of ​​6.000m2, gained a profit of about VND 450 million. He still has 1,000m2 of pomelo garden to serve tourists, who want to buy fruits at the festival.

By this time, the Organizing Committee completed the preparation for the 2nd Bach Dang Grapefruit Festival 2019. According to People's Committee of Bach Dang Commune, 6 pomelo orchards, 1 model of clean vegetables in the commune were selected to serve visitors; tents, display areas, overall decorations were well prepared.

Doan Hong Tuoi, Deputy Secretary of the town Party Committee, Chairman of the town People's Committee, said that local authorities had instructed booths to be harmoniously arranged, goods and products must have good quality, diverse in types, ensure stability in goods sources and prices during 3 days of the festival. Functional branches prepared carefully for transports, personnel, images, materials for visitors in case of participating in tours connecting with historical relics and attractions in the town.

In addition, he asked relevant agencies and units, during the festival, to pay special attention to environmental protection work so that areas of the festival and tourist attractions would be clean, beautiful, ensure traffic safety, security and order, fire protection; to ensure sufficient power supply for the festival. Regarding food safety and hygiene issues, the township leaders assigned local Medical Center take samples for analysis and testing every day. "With the scale and significance of this festival, the organization must have the participation of the whole political system so that the festival could happen successfully, efficiently and give a stimulus for local tourism development in the future”, Mr. Tuoi said.
