To enhance market control, supply sufficient goods

Provincial industry and trade authority confirmed, the market during Lunar New Year 2021 would not have shortage of goods, sudden price increases. People in all localities in the province will have enough goods and necessities to celebrate the New Year happily, safely and economically.

 Purchasing power increases again

Total retail sales of goods and services of January was estimated at 21,511 billion VND, up 1.9% over the same period last year. The consumer price index increased by 0.1% year-on-year. In the last months of 2020, retail sales of consumer goods and services have also had optimistic signals. According to provincial Department of Industry and Trade, the reason for positive retail growth rate is the proactiveness and rapid adaptation of retailers in the area. The modern distribution system has implemented a series of promotions, at the same time stimulating the demand for goods trading through e-commerce channels. Entering the annual biggest shopping season, retailers are expecting a sharp increase in purchasing power to compensate for a rather bleak year due to natural disasters and epidemics.

With the serious implementation of instructions from People's Committee of the province, so far the supply of goods has been carefully prepared by localities along with plans to deploy many Tet programs, trade promotion at year-end time, these will well meet the increasing demands and tastes of the people.

In localities, up to now, the trade - service business situation has had many positive changes. According to Economic Department of Thuan An City, the city currently has about 30,000 business households, 5 supermarkets, 7 shopping centers, 23 planned markets that have been put into operation stably, and 86 mini-supermarkets, thus does not have to worry about the supply of goods. The city is focusing on stabilizing the market for essential goods in 2021 and the period before, during and after Tet holiday. Accordingly, the city directed functional branches to guarantee the supply of goods, introduce qualified enterprises to take part in this program. To publicize information about selling locations of stabilized goods, step up the campaign of Vietnamese people to give priority to using Vietnamese goods.

In North Tan Uyen district, purchasing power in January eyed a good growth. Total retail sales of goods and services was estimated at 286 billion VND, up 15.67% over the same period last year. Market management was tightened since beginning of the year. In January, the district authorities examined 277 cases, handled 6 violations, collected a total fine of VND 757 million; strengthened market inspection and control, strictly handled violations of production, transportation, counterfeit goods, poor quality goods, unhygienic food.

To strictly control the market

Under the direction of Provincial People's Committee's Chairman Nguyen Hoang Thao, in the period before and after Tet, branches needed to continue implementing plans to stabilize the essential goods market; at the same time, survey and renew sales methods at supermarkets and ways to bring stabilized goods to remote areas, industrial parks and clusters; implement solutions to ensure the supply of electricity and petroleum to serve production, business and daily-life activities.

Department of Industry and Trade is currently implementing the peak plan to fight smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods before, during and after Lunar New Year 2021. The Department also joined hands with Market Management Department to intensify market management.

Facing the price increase of pork on days before Lunar New Year, provincial industry and trade authority worked with pork suppliers and distributors to carry out many activities to ensure the balance of supply and demand. Supermarkets Big C and GO announced to sell pork at cost price (without profit) until the end of Lunar New Year 2021 holiday. Saigon Co-op supermarket system also planned for increasing their pork supply more 30-40% during the Tet holiday, and participate in, implement the commitment to selling at a stable price.

According to Tran Van Tung, acting Director of provincial Market Management Department, in the coming time, the department would strengthen the control and handle the production and trading of fake and poor-quality food, especially focusing on production facilities and food items used a lot during Tet holidays; minimizing food poisoning cases. In addition, market management forces will set up food safety inspection teams at localities. As detecting violations, the authority handle these cases in accordance with the law, absolutely prevent products that do not meet food safety standards, counterfeit goods, food of unknown origins, no labels or have other violations from being traded in the market.
