New National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, who is also serving as Chairman of the National Election Council (NEC), chaired the council’s fifth session on April 12, the first following the election of several positions to the council.

National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue addresses the event

Upon addressing the meeting, NA Chairman Hue said that along with efforts to successfully organise the NA’s 11th session, which is the last of the 14th tenure, preparations for the elections of deputies to the 15th legislature and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021 to 2026 tenure have been underway since the NEC’s fourth session.

As part of these efforts, offices in charge of the elections have been set up, documents guiding the elections have been issued, whilst preparations on personnel work have stepped up, and dissemination efforts have intensified, he said.

Due to a significant workload remaining, the council’s leader therefore suggested that the NEC work harder in an effort to ensure democracy and the abidance of law during the organization of elections. This is in order to allow competent lawmakers who are capable of representing people’s rights to be elected.

During the course of the session, the council listened to numerous reports on the implementation of tasks since its fourth session, along with the establishment and deployment of supervision groups. This was along with preparations for the third consultative conference and adjustments made to the assignment of tasks to NEC members.

Throughout the duration of the meeting the council moved to adopt a resolution on the assignment of tasks to its members.

The responsibility of the NEC is to both direct and guide the organisation of elections of deputies to the 15th NA and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021 to 2026 term, in accordance with the law. This therefore serves to make the process safe, economical, and democratic as a means of electing those who are truly competent and worthy of the confidence of citizens. These efforts will ultimately make the election on May 23 a true festival for the entire population, NA Chairman Hue added.
