Trade, service sector get thriving

Update: 10-04-2021 | 17:21:15

The development of retail market has contributed to meeting people’s consumer demand. Although facing many difficulties from Covid-19 pandemic in the first quarter of 2021, enterprises were successful in  stimulating consumer demand, thanks to the proper guidelines and solutions of provincial People's Committee, along with the efforts by the local sector of industry and trade.

Positive growth

In the first quarter of 2021, the province’s industry and trade sector effectively implemented the local program on market stabilization, stockpiling of goods for Tet holiday and Covid-19 prevention-control. The province’s total retail sales revenue of goods and services was estimated at more than VND65.29 trillion, up 8.7% over the same period or 22.3% of the year’s plan. Of these, the domestic economic sector reached more than VND62trillion, up 8.5% while the foreign investment sector obtained more than VND3.25 trillion, up 11.9%. In March alone, the figure was estimated at more than VND21.7 trillion, up 2.7% and 13.6% against the previous month and the same period.

Provincial DoIT has directed businesses to ensure safe shopping at the local markets, supermarkets and commercial centers amid Covid-19 pandemic

To achieve this result, along with strengthening Covid-19 prevention and control, provincial Department of Industry and Trade (DoIT) cooperated with agencies and distributors to carry out screening testing at markets, supermarkets and trade centers across the province; implemented the COVID-19 Safe Living Map and the assessment of the risk of infection at the local markets, supermarkets, and commercial centers under the direction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Nguyen Thanh Toan, Director of provincial DoIT said that the sector will continue well implementing the local program on market stabilization for essential goods in order to maintain the growth of trade and services in the coming time; strengthen forecast for market development in order to give timely reports to provincial People's Committee; monitor the stockpiling of essential goods of enterprises participating in the program in a bid  to respond to the pandemic; focus on developing commercial infrastructure, further implement solutions to promote hi-quality services; take solutions to improve capacity for international economic integration and competitiveness of export goods.

Provincial DoIT will also advise provincial People's Committee on developing activities to protect the local consumers in the 2021-2025 period; strengthen State management in the field of trade fraud prevention; coordinated with functional forces to strengthen the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and fake goods. The province’s sector of industry and trade together with the Market Surveillance Department has set up a joint regulation on State management in the field of industry-trade and market management activities.

Infrastructure development

As assessed, Binh Duong is one of the country’s leading localities in FDI attraction, with a large number of laborers, which is a very favorable condition for the development of the local trade-service sector.  Although commercial activities in the province have achieved many remarkable results, infrastructure facilities in the northern districts has not met the development needs of the sector yet. Supermarkets and first-class markets are still too few and mainly in the center of the province…

Mr. Toan has just had a working session with the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities about plans on development of industry and trade in localities, including sustainable e-commerce development. At the session, he said that localities need to do well planning work, especially land use planning; coordinate with provincial Department of Construction to build a database for the management and development of the sector in the coming time. He also suggested localities to jointly set up development orientations for the local sector of industry and trade in line with  provincial plan on development in the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

For trade and service activities to develop and keep pace with the trend, provincial DoIT over the past years made great efforts to put ist e-commerce floor into operation. Through the e-commerce floor, businesses have more opportunities to introduce and update products; sell products with fast and convenient payment… This is also a bridge on information, investment promotion for domestic and foreign enterprises, contributing to developing the market.

At the recent meeting with Central Retail Group, Nguyen Thanh Truc, Vice-Chairman of provincial People's Committee said that Binh Duong will continue implementing breakthrough programs in the 2020-2025 tenure. Of these, there is a program with focus on developing high-quality service industries at the requirements of industrial and urban development in the civilization and modernization trend. Therefore, the proposal to deploy the group’s project into Ben Cat town is very suitable with the development orientation of the province. In addition to implementing the project in Ben Cat town, provincial leaders encouraged the group to do more researches and develop the project in many localities in the northern region of the province.
