Update: 31-05-2021 | 16:32:38

According to Culture and Information Office of Thuan An City, mangosteen trees originated in Malaysia and Indonesia, and were introduced to the South of Vietnam by Western missionaries. After coming to the South Vietnam, Lai Thieu was chosen for the first experimental propagation, because this was a land with suitable soil and climate for this plant.

Lai Thieu mangosteen has long been famous in many regions because of its special sweet taste and deliciousness that are different from mangosteen grown in other places. Perhaps that's why, in the past, King Minh Mạng gave this fruit a very beautiful name, which was "giáng châu tử" (like a pearl from heaven).

For a long time, mangosteen fruit of Lai Thieu has become a famous and distinctive fruit when it comes to specialty fruits in Binh Duong. In 2013, Lai Thieu mangosteen was recognized by Vietnam Book of Records Organization to be in the top 50 famous fruit specialties of Vietnam and was recognized as a trademark by National Office of Intellectual Property - Ministry of Science and Technology.

This season, mangosteen gardens in Cau Ngang area in Hung Dinh ward, Thuan An city have many ripe fruits. Although it is at beginning of the ripe season, mangosteen fruits are not too ripe and the price is a bit high, Lai Thieu mangosteen is sought and bought by many people inside and outside the province to enjoy themselves or send as gifts to their family and friends, because of its well-known brand name and delicious taste. If you have a chance to pass by lush orchards of Lai Thieu, you should stop by and enjoy the famous Lai Thieu mangosteen to feel a sweet taste that will never be forgotten.
