World Federation of Trade Unions works with provincial Labor Federation

On Sep 5, World Federation of Trade Unions’ (WFTU) delegation led by Mzwandile Michael Makwayiba, WFTU President, visited Binh Duong provincial Labor Federation. To welcome and work with the delegation were Nguyen Hoang Thao, Permanent Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee; leaders of provincial Labor Federation.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Thao said that Binh Duong had 29 industrial parks and 12 industrial clusters, attracting nearly 39,000 domestic enterprises and 3,700 FDI enterprises. The total number of workers is nearly 1.2 million, accounting for nearly 50% of the provincial population, of which female workers account for 57%, migrant workers account for 85%. Every year, the province needs to recruit about 50,000 additional workers. Mr. Thao affirmed that Vietnam Trade Union always accompanied the cause of national construction and development. Vietnamese Trade Unions are under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, in compliance with the laws of Vietnam. Vietnam Trade Union in general and Binh Duong's Trade Union in particular are always tied to WFTU for the common mission to build an increasingly sustainable world class of workers.

Mzwandile Michael Makwayiba, President of WFTU, said that WFTU was very happy and honored to meet with Vietnam Trade Union, including Trade Union of Binh Duong Province; at the same time, he said that Vietnam Trade Union had done a good job of protecting the legal rights and interests of workers. This was also the reason why WFTU chose Vietnam to host the WFTU Congress in 2021.

Currently, provincial Labor Confederation manages 16 upper-level trade unions with 3,550 grassroots trade unions and 760,000 union members; in which non-State sector has 2,750 grassroots unions with 720,000 union members. Every year, Binh Duong Trade Union has 200 new grassroots unions, about 60,000 union members. The rate of members at grassroots trade unions is over 90%; 60% of enterprises have grassroots trade union that signed collective labor agreements...
