Deputy PM receives Germany’s Hessen state minister

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh on February 26 lauded Germany’s Hessen state as a most active factor in Vietnam – Germany strategic partnership.

During a reception in Hanoi for Minister of Higher Education, Research and the Arts of Germany’s Hessen State Angela Dorn, Binh said two-way trade between Vietnam and Hessen state now nears 1 billion USD, or one-eighth of trade between Vietnam and Germany.

He lauded cooperation between Hessen and Vietnam through the Vietnam – Germany University project which is dubbed as a “lighthouse” in bilateral ties. All curricula are lectured by professors from Germany’s partner schools.

As the two countries are celebrating the 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties this year, more visits will be facilitated while major celebrations will be held, including the Vietnam Culture Days in Germany.

Binh suggested that Minister Dorn encourage local firms to invest in Vietnam in the fields of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, mechanical engineering, support industry, farm produce processing, and production of natural rubber, as well as become strategic shareholders in equitised and listed firms.

Both sides should develop economic, trade and investment ties, as well as tap new opportunities arising from the European Union - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, he said.

The host also asked the minister to offer all possible support to Vietnamese firms to do effective business in the state, further enhance education and vocational training cooperation with Vietnam, and create favourable conditions for Vietnamese community living and working in the country.

Dorn, for her part, said the most important bridge connecting the two countries is not only economic but cultural factors also, adding that Hessen highly values Vietnam’s long-standing culture.

She said three leading European universities in Germany are strong in vaccine production, and ready to offer funding to Vietnamese scientists to come there to jointly study vaccines against COVID-19 outbreak with them within 1-3 months./.
