Thousands of flowers and big statues of goats graced a flower festival that was opened to public in downtown Ho Chi Minh City on Friday night, marking the start of the city's Tet celebration.

Despite being moved from its usual venue on Nguyen Hue to Ham Nghi Street, to accommodate the construction of the city’s first-ever subway, the annual festival is still as crowded as ever.
The venue has been converted into a walking street and is divided into three sections with the first being a giant showcase of Vietnamese handicrafts.
The second section is displaying flower arrangement art works, with flowers being arranged into streams, columns and nests of different heights.
In the last section, flowers are placed near statues of goats that that are as high as 2.7 meters and as long as 2 meters.
The statues’ designs are inspired from the wild goat native in the northern province of Ninh Binh, using polystyrene foam and plaster as the main materials.
The flower festival will end on February 22, the fourth day of the lunar year.
