Update: 16-11-2022 | 13:21:53

Within the framework of the Binh Duong Expo 2022 program, in order to promote connection between the local supply and demand of goods, provincial People's Committee has awarded the first OCOP product certificates of 2022 to 19 products. This is an activity to further honor, promote and introduce products meeting provincial OCOP standards to consumers and distributors.

Opening up opportunities

With the goal of developing forms to organize production and business activities (with priority to the development of cooperatives, small and medium-sized enterprises) to produce traditional products and services with standard advantages, capacity of competitiveness in the domestic and international markets, contributing to rural economic development and economic restructuring, improving income and living standards for people, in 2020, provincial People's Committee issued the Decision No. 1166/QD-UBND dated April 29, 2020 approving the Scheme of “One Commune One Product” (OCOP) program for the period 2018-2020, with orientation to 2025.

The evaluation of OCOP products is based on product quality criteria: organoleptic factor, nutrition, uniqueness, standards, exportability and distribution in international markets together with criteria on production organization, product development, community strength, marketing ability... The total evaluation score for each product is up to 100 points and is classified into 5 grades, of which 5th grade is the highest.

Pham Van Bong, Director of provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that in the first phase of 2022, 65 products of 40 subjects in 6 districts and towns of the province registered to participate in the OCOP program. Through reviewing documents, provincial OCOP product classification and evaluation council assessed and classified 65 products under the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 1048/QD-TTg and Decision No. 781/QD-TTg. As a result, the Council submitted documents to provincial People's Committee in order to recognize 19 products of 12 subjects achieving 3-star OCOP products (with scores ranging from 50 to 69 points).

These products satisfy conditions that they are specialty, typical and traditional products of the locality; ensuring the criteria of quality, food safety and hygiene, traceability…under consumer market trends and regulations. Thus, as of now, Binh Duong province has had 47 products recognized as OCOP ones at provincial level, including 8 four-start products and 39 three-star products.

Cooperatives, enterprises and individuals in the province all identified that participating in the OCOP program is a challenge, but also a great opportunity to build their brand names and make an impression in major domestic markets towards export.  Nguyen Hong Quyet, Director of Kim Long Hi-tech Agriculture Cooperative in Phu Giao district’s An Binh commune said that participating in the program is very necessary. This is because if being recognized as OCOP products, the cooperative's products will have a brand name, participate in the trade promotion system to promote products, helping them not only have a foothold in the domestic and regional markets, but also have the opportunity to pentrate into foreign markets.

Trade promotion strengthened

Mr.Bong added that the OCOP program is a program aimed at each commune that will create at least one or more key products with comparative advantages towards building brand names, linking and expanding production and consumption. This is considered as a lever to promote economic development in rural areas while contributing to building new-style rural areas in the province in depth and sustainable efficiency. Currently, the program is being actively implemented by localities, creating resilience for agriculture, rural areas and farmers.

Three-star OCOP products displayed at the exhibition

Over the past time, the province paid special attention to propagandizing the OCOP program to all-level authorities, sectors and people in the province, considering OCOP as an important economic development program in the community, especially in rural areas. Provincial People's Committee also directed sectors and localities to support and create conditions for the subjects participating in the program to consolidate, upgrade, standardize and improve the quality of the products participating in the OCOP program at the product quality assessment criteria as prescribed.

In the period of 2021-2025, the province has set a target of getting 100% of communes with products participating in the OCOP Program. There will also have at least 150 subjects registering to participate in the OCOP Program; at least 80 products with 3 stars or more recognized as OCOP products at provincial level, at least 3 products with 5 stars recognized as national OCOP products.

Determining that trade promotion is the key step of the program, the province has organized trade and product promotion activities through the application of information technology and introduction on e-commerce sites; built up points displaying and selling OCOP products. Recently, the province has successfully organized a program to connect the supply and demand of goods in 2022, aiming at connecting trade between suppliers and exporters and organizing trade promotion for the local businesses and establishments. The province has also directed to promote linkages in production and consumption activities, develop commodity agriculture under the value chain associated with consumption market and encourage economic organizations and individuals to develop the local agricultural production with advantages.

Mai Hung Dung, member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice-Chairman of provincial People's Committee: The program to connect the supply and demand of goods is considered as an important annual trade promotion activity of the province. The program is becoming an effective trading channel for agricultural products, processed foods, handicrafts, typical rural industrial products, and OCOP products in the province, thereby helping the local associations, businesses, farms, cooperatives, production facilities and the whole country have more channels to meet, establish and exploit domestic and international trade relationships, expand and improve business efficiency now and in the future.
