Update: 05-01-2022 | 18:40:26

People's shopping demand at the end of the year still increases despite being affected by the COVID-19 epidemic. At the time, the supply of Tet goods has begun in order to stabilize the market and serve the needs of the people.

Consumer needs increase

Despite the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tet is a special occasion and a traditional culture of Vietnamese people, so the demand for shopping would not decrease compared to 2021. Analysis of the provincial functional sector showed that the essential consumption needs of about 2.6 million people in the province on average in a day might include 780 tons of food, 520 tons of edibles, 208 tons of fresh food, 182 tons of poultry meat, 1,170 tons of vegetables and fruits and much more. Thus, the average daily consumption demand is about 3,536 tons equivalent to about VND 130 billion. The average consumption demand in 7 days is about 24,752 tons equivalent to about VND 910 billion.

Thus, the essential consumer demand in the last month of the year would increase by about 20-30% in the commodity groups. “Despite the epidemic when income decreased, causing many customers to be cautious and tighten spending, shopping demand still tends to increase in the year-end. In the last 2 weeks alone, there have been a lot of fashion products, home decoration products, etc., which were sold out very quickly. The visual situation reflects the increased purchasing power of consumers in the last quarter of 2021 and the following month," commented Mr. Pham Phu Hien, director of Lotte Mart Binh Duong.

An unnamed representative of the Vinmart convenience store chain in Binh Duong at Di An and My Phuoc said, the increasing consumer demand and the mentality of focusing accumulated income during the year on spending on Tet shopping of customers, supermarkets have spent a financial resource of VND 45 billion in price stabilization and the supply of food items. Currently, purchasing power has increased slightly, focusing on Tet gifts. Therefore, the supermarket is committed to ensure enough goods for people during Tet.

To ensure supplying capacity

Due to the high demand for shopping at the end of the year, the industry and trade department is rapidly implementing a program to stabilize the market of essential goods in 2022, the Lunar New Year 2022 and respond to the epidemic in the "new normal" in the province according to the proposed plan. In which, goods stored to stabilize the market must be ensured by quality, food safety and hygiene, associated with the implementation of the campaign for Vietnamese people to prioritize using Vietnamese goods. The price of essential commodities should be maintained; the supply chain, goods circulation, distribution system in the province should be ensured. Commodity production enterprises, supply stores and food processing must be operated continuously and stably during the period from December 1 to the end of March 1, 2022 and then continue to operate in remaining months of 2022.

The concern of people today is that the price of pork in the market is still standing at a high level which is above VND 180,000 a kilo. However, according to the industry and trade department, Binh Duong has the ability to self-supply of about 7,800 tons a month, so the product is guaranteed to serve people's needs and the possibility of stable prices would continue to hold in the future. According to the forecast of Department of Industry and Trade, large distribution enterprises in the area has been asked to actively develop plans to diversify pork supply and to participate in stabilizing the local pork market. The province is committed to ensure the quantity and selling at the registered stabilized price of about 5% - 10% lower than the market prices.

For other commodities such as buffalo and cow meat, the supply capacity is about 2,340 tons a month, poultry meat 3,750 tons a month, poultry eggs 41,600,000 eggs a month. That is not to mention other items such as vegetables and fruits as all participating businesses aim to stabilize market prices during the Tet holiday with a total value of goods in reserve of about VND 5,671 billion (excluding gasoline, oil, medicines and medical masks, medical equipment for disease prevention and control, biological products for rapid test). By the above supply plans, retail businesses, participating in market price stabilization in 2022, balance solutions and flexibly operate production and business to ensure sufficient supply of goods and goods prices to serve customers during Tet.
