To promote effects of handicraft villages in tourism

Binh Duong Province holds great advantages in promoting roles of handicraft villages in tourism for in position of great concentration of handcraft villages in the locality. Natural advantages Binh Duong is a province of various handicraft villages notably the fields of pottery, lacquer, and wood sculpture. Handicraft products of villages in Binh Duong Province are various in forms and types enriched in Vietnamese culture to meet demands of domestic and foreign customers. Those products have particularly brought about high income and jobs to local people. At recent workshop on “Handicraft villages and development – Binh Duong experience”, Mr. Nguyen Van Loc, Director of Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that tourism was considered as vital role in developing handicraft villages. Thus, efforts have been made to renovate handicraft villages to meet demands of visitors. Indeed, the work of restoration, conservation and development of traditional handicraft villages in Binh Duong as lacquer, ceramics, wood sculpture ... so associated with the development of tourism has become an important objective in the strategic development of the tourism industry in the province. Various activities and orientations regarding the preservation and development of handicraft villages for tourism have bene organized. Vietnamese Pottery Festival 2010 was firstly held in Binh Duong Province. Farm trips were endorsed to collect feedbacks of visitors. Movies and films have been made to broadcast images of Binh Duong including the handicraft villages. Exhibitions and fairs have been organize to introduce products from handicraft villages. Obstacles to be removed Aside from advantages, the restoration, conservation and development of traditional handicraft villages linked to the purpose of tourism development in the province were facing difficulties which should be removed. Photo by Huy Binh Mrs. Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Director of Center for Tourism Promotion of the province affirmed the makeshift development of tranditional handicraft villages linked to tourism development deriving from tourism companies paying out to build up sites for vistors in unbalanced and low rate services. The problems were that products of some handicraft villages failed to catch the eyes of tourists due to their low rate making by unskillful craftmen let alone the servicing infra-construction. The linkage of traditional handicraft village development and tourism development has been considered as great advantage of local tourism sector provided that all the problems remedied in good shapes to attract more people to come.
