10th-grade entrance exam for 2023-2024 school year: Ensuring safety, seriousness, and compliance with regulations

On June 2, after finishing the math test, more than 22,000 candidates in Binh Duong province completed the 10th-grade entrance exam for the 2023-2024 school year. Particularly, candidates who apply to Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted will take additional specialized subjects on June 3 and 4.  This year's exam is judged to be safe, serious in accordance with regulations.

Candidates feeling comfortable to enter the final test

June 2, more than 22,000 candidates entered the final test day of the 10th-grade entrance exam for the 2023-2024 school year. Accordingly, candidates took the math test starting at 8 am with the time of 120 minutes. As noted by reporters, right from 7 am, candidates were present at the exam councils to prepare to enter the exam rooms. They were all happy, quite comfortable and confidently entered the final test with the hope of getting the best results.

While candidates raced against time to complete the math test, many parents also sit in front of the school gate to watch anxiously. Le Thi Bich Ngoc (70 years old, living in Thu Dau Mot city’s Tuong Binh Hiep ward) and her husband sat impatiently in front of the auxiliary gate of the Examination Council No. 1 at Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted in Thu Dau Mot city said that her grandson, who attends Tuong Binh Hiep Secondary School, wants to enter the 10th grade at Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted, so she and her husband took him to the exam for the past 2 days and waited for him to return. Accompanying their grandchild for the past 2 days, they breathed a sigh of relief when seeing their family member come out of the exam hall with a radiant face.

Waiting for their children outside the school gate, some parents said that although having trust in their children, they were a little worried and nervous. Bui Thi Dung from An Thai commune in Phu Giao district whose child took the exam at Nguyen Hue high school's examination council said that with her child's academic ability at a good level, she hopes that her child will achieve good results at all subjects to be able to enter Nguyen Hue high school.

At over 10 am, candidates at 44 exam councils in the province completed the 10th-grade entrance exam for the 2023-2024 school year. As one of the first candidates to come out at the examination council of Tan Phuoc Khanh high school in Tan Uyen city, Nguyen Tuan Khang, a student at Binh Chuan secondary school in Thuan An city shared: “This year's math is suitable for us with types that we have been reviewed by many teachers in class, so they are quite familiar. I did about 80% of the test. After the exam, I just want to rest comfortably and hope to get good results."

Also with the joy of successfully completing math, Nguyen Khanh Linh, a student at Tran Dai Nghia secondary school in Thuan An city said that she was very confident in getting a perfect score because this year’s math questions were very reasonable. After finishing 3 subjects, I feel very excited. I hope to continue well doing her specialized subject on Sunday.

The entrance exam taking place seriously, safely

To ensure safety, seriousness and quality, at the 10th-grade entrance exam for the 2023-2024 school year, provincial Department of Education and Training (DoET) mobilized 2,215 officials, teachers in charge of monitoring the exam at 44 exam councils with more than 22,000 candidates and 896 exam rooms.

According to the preliminary assessment of provincial DoET, during the two days of the exam, plans to ensure security and order were actively deployed by localities. Sschools and functional forces ensured absolute safety, helping candidates and parents feel secure and confident. The examination councils closely monitored the situation of candidates, promptly reporting when there were unexpected cases.

Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Director of provincial DoET said that before the exam, the department thoroughly grasped the importance of the exam, popularized and guided leaders of the examination councils on the contents of the exam-monitoring skills, the preparation of material facilities, the agreement on the delivery and receipt of exam questions and exams between provincial DoLISA and examination councils, etc. Provincial DoLISA requested exam councils to coordinate with the local authorities to well implement propaganda about the exam; set up and implement a plan to ensure food security, safety and hygiene, Covid-19 prevention and control, and create the best conditions for the organization of examination.

“As of now, it can be said that the entrance exam to the 10th grade of the public high schools in the 2023-2024 school year in the whole province has been completed successfully. In the 2 days, the exam took place safely and 44 examination councils ensured objectivity, fairness, seriousness in accordance with regulations with strictness at all stages. The work of ensuring security, order and traffic safety at the test sites was well done by localities", added Mr. Phong.

As noted, on the last day of the exam, the whole province had 56 candidates who are absent from the subject of literature. And there were 161 candidates being absent from English, including 102 exempted from the exam and 59 absent without reason, together with 63 absent from math. Especially, this year’s exam took place safely and seriously, with no candidates and teachers violating the regulations of the exam.

 

According to provincial DoET’s plan, from June 4 to 20, the province’s examination councils will organize the task of marking the exam and fulfill the relevant ones. It is expected that on June 21, provincial DoET will announce the results of the 10th-grade entrance exam. Currently, the province’s examination councils are organizing to receive test papers and prepare some upcoming stages to mark the exam. And there will be training sessions, implementing the exam- marking regulations in accordance with the regulations of provincial DoET.

It is expected that the enrollment targets for the 10th grade of high schools in the 2023-2024 school year are 12,700 students for public high schools and 3,248 students for the private ones. Based on the test scores and the actual situation of each school and each locality, provincial DoLISA can adjust enrollment targets accordingly to ensure the distribution of post-secondary students in each locality and in the whole province.
