2010: Another VND 5 trillion for student loans

Update: 06-01-2010 | 00:00:00

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has asked the Bank for Social Policies to mobilize some VND 10 trillion in the next two years, including between VND 4-5 trillion in 2010 to give loans to pupils and students nationwide.

2010 will be the third successive year to see the Government implement preferential credit policies for students across the country.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan, over the past two years, despite the global economic crisis, the program was carried out on larger scale helping more disadvantaged pupils and students receive support from the Government for study.

So far nearly 1.7 million pupils and students from over 1.5 million families have been given loans from the program.

Since September 2007 when the program started, the State has allocated VND 18 trillion for the program.

In 2010, each student is still allowed to borrow VND 860,000 per month.
