2016 Action Month for Food Safety and Hygiene implemented

Provincial Steering Board of Food Safety and Hygiene yesterday held a conference to extend the 2016 Action Month for Food Safety and Hygiene with the theme of “Further strengthening production, trade and consumption of safe vegetables and meat”.

The  Action month will be implemented from April 15 to May 15 nationwide. It aims to basically deal with the use of banned substances in animal husbandry, reduce residues of plant protection drugs in vegetables and fruits, and chemicals residues in meat and aquatic products; raise organizations and individuals’ awareness in production, business and consumption of safe vegetables and meat; strengthen inspection on food safety and hygiene at foodstuff processing, trading facilities, especially wholesale markets; minimize food poisoning from unsafe vegetables and meat.

The event also includes a communication campaign to promote activities for food safety and hygiene, take initiative in preventing food contamination and poisoning, especially mass poisoning and food-borne diseases, due to the use of unsafe products.
