20th anniversary of the Great National Unity Festival

After 20 years of implementation, the National Day of Great Unity has been organized systematically and extensively throughout the country. In Binh Duong, this festive day contributes to building cultural life at the grassroots, strengthening neighborhood bonds, promoting the community strength, creating close bonds between party leaders, authorities, officials, party members and the masses.

Over the past 20 years, the Great National Unity Day in residential areas has been organized by the Fatherland Front at all levels in the province. The organization of this festival demonstrates initiative, flexibility, and creativity, especially attracts the active participation of folks, from preparations for the festival to cultural, artistic, and sports activities, including folk games, dances, and songs of ethnic minorities. Images of people of all religions doing environmental sanitation activities, taking part in cooking competitions, giving gifts to the poor... are features of the Great National Unity Day over the past 20 years.

In Bau Bang district, during 20 years, the organization of the festival has been carefully coordinated, and the organization quality has been increasingly improved. According to Pham Van Thang, Vice Chairman of Fatherland Front Committee of Bau Bang district, recently the Great National Unity Festival in residential areas was organized by the Fatherland Front working committees in the district to suit each locality and ensure both the ceremony and the festive part. The ceremony was held solemnly focusing on reviewing the historical traditions of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and reporting results of campaigns. In addition, there were activities, such as donating houses, visits, and support to poor households, giving gifts to policy families, praising outstanding individuals, good examples, good deeds in residential areas... The festive part included arts performances to promote the national cultural identity and the cultural and artistic spirit of the people; folk games create a vibrant and joyful atmosphere during the festival.

Similarly, in North Tan Uyen district, hamlets and neighborhoods organized festivals that ensure ceremony and festival requirements. Officials, party members and local people participating in the festival reached 92% or more; over 60% of residential areas opened "Unity Meals". The festivals confirm community cohesion and self-management as cross-cutting values. Since then, people have a better understanding of political tasks of each locality, promote the role of each individual in campaigns and patriotic emulation movements associated with socio-economic development. Over the past 20 years, the Fatherland Front from districts to grassroots have coordinated with local authorities to mobilize people to contribute, repair and upgrade 278 rural roads with a total cost of more than VND111 billion...

Promote self-management

In Thu Dau Mot City, the Great National Unity Day is a solution to uphold the self-governing role of each community, individual, and household in implementing patriotic campaigns and emulation movements. According to Huynh Van Thanh, Head of Thu Dau Mot City Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Committee, Chairman of Fatherland Front Committee, recently the campaign "All people unite to build cultural life in residential areas" has been carried out widely. Over the past 20 years, the campaign has been continuously expanded and increasingly improved in terms of quality and effectiveness. The city has 1,755 residential areas awarded the title of Cultural Residential Area (78%); more than 823,000 families recognized as Cultural Families (99%); 100% residential areas built, supplemented regulations. The registration rate for titles of Cultural Family, Cultural Quarter, Cultural Boarding House, and Ward meeting urban civilization standards is increasing, and the quality of these titles is improved.

In Thuan An City, the Great National Unity Day is also a solution to develop the self-governing role of the community. Before the festival takes place, the city and communes, wards, quarters and hamlets made announcements and communicated in many forms so that folks can grasp the purpose and meaning of the festival. This festival is also a widespread political activity, through which each individual and household participates in patriotic campaigns and emulation movements launched by the Fatherland Front and unions at all levels. The city built and donated 320 Great Unity houses; repaired 67 apartments; gave gifts to poor households, near-poor households, and households having extremely difficult circumstances, with a total of more than 42,000 households; gave gifts to more than 3,000 students... The entire city established, maintained 92 self-managed environmental protection groups with more than 5,400 members; built 56 urban civilized streets taking charge by Fatherland Front and managed by the people, "Garbage-free neighborhoods and hamlets"... 

Tran Thi Kim Lan, Vice Chairwoman of Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, said: The Great National Unity Day has become a traditional beauty, contributing to bringing the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State closer to the community, each family and each person. Thereby, creating social consensus, promoting the people's right to mastery, upholding the tradition of solidarity and the spirit of overcoming difficulties. This is also a great strength and an invaluable asset for today's and future generations to inherit and develop, continue their mission, and build up Binh Duong homeland…
