Challenges

The on-going World Cup has prompted people to test view 3D television in centers as such. However, they are still reluctant for possible shortcomings that 3D Televisions proved to have across brand names of Samsung, Toshiba, LG, Sony, and many more.

Firstly, the technology requirement is troublesome by requiring blue-ray reader to be compatible with the television of full HD standard (1920x1080 pixels) and eye-glasses which are costly to consumers. For one reader, consumers have to pay at least VND 8 million while eye-glasses may cost over VND 2 million a pair.

Despite new features, 3D television is somewhat influential to health of users. Samsung has warned that pregnant women, people suffering sleep disorders or alcohol should not watch 3D television. Children under 6 years old are prohibited to watch 3D television.

Watching 3D television may cause eyes tension and losing of direction. Besides, by wearing the eye-glasses for a long time users may suffer from headach or tiresome. People previously suffer from cerebral vascular illness would be influent by watch those televisions.

…and money

3D cinemas appear more and more after resounding success of Avatar which prompted tendency of enjoying 3D films at home. And 3D televisions are produced to meet the demands; however, production does not ensure ‘friendly’ price to consumers.

Samsung is offering 40-in 3D televisions of VND 36.9 million a set and VND 48.9 million for 46-in ones. Even the promotional one appeared in Thanh Loc shop is at VND 69.590 million.

those prices are challenging enough to consumers of average income. Besides, people may choose other kinds of cheaper entertainment. As the matter of fact, Sony expresses no hope for hot sale of 3D televisions under its brand name while Samsung only hopes to gain 1-2% of domestic market share.
