A Khmer ethnic household rises up out of poverty

Thanks to the attention and help of the local government, Khmer ethnic people in Dau Tieng district’s Thanh Tuyen commune have risen up out of poverty and secured a stable life. The household of Thach Thien, a Khmer ethnic farmer in Thanh Tuyen commune’s Duong Long hamlet is a typical example for this. For many consecutive years, his household has won the title of “good farmer household in production and business” at all levels.

Living in a poor family, Thach Thien faced many obstacles in life. In 1980, he got married and also lived in a hard circumstance. Not discouraged by the poverty, Thach Thien and his wife were determined to overcome hurdles to rise up out of poverty. Thanks to the help and attention of the local government, he has so far invested and grown 3 ha of rubber trees that are now under exploitation. He has also raised 15 cows, including 10 mother cows and 5 baby ones.

Along with rubber tree growing and cow breeding, Thien Thach has invested in breeding hundreds of chickens and ducks. It is estimated that his family’s annual average income from agricultural production reaches around VND200mln. To achieve this result, he has made efforts in researching and learning experience in agricultural production; applying sci-tech advancements in agricultural production from seminars held by the local government. Since 2007, his household has always got the title of “good farmer household in production and business” at all levels.

In addition to being good at economic development to rise up out of poverty, Thach Thien has actively got involved in social charity activities, including making contributions for building rural roads; providing relied aid to flood-hit people, raising money to the Fund for the Poor…
