A significant Tet for migrant workers

In the past Tet holiday 2014, many migrant laborers who could not afford to come back their homes for Tet were forced to enjoy Tet holiday away from home. However, they enjoyed great attention from functional agencies, businesses, lodging houses’ proprietors who brought a warm Tet holiday for migrant and poor laborers.

Beautiful souvenirs

Vietnamese people always want to reunite with family members on every Tet holiday. However, owing to difficult circumstance, many migrant workers were force to stay Binh Duong to enjoy a Tet holiday away from home. During the Tet holiday 2014, we arrived at some lodging rooms for workers to learn about their Tet holiday away from home. Despite a Tet holiday away from home, every worker enjoyed a warm holiday.

At Phu Loi ward, Thu Dau Mot city, migrant young workers who stayed for Tet enjoyed a lively and significant Tet festival held by the ward youth union.

The festival included contests on cooking round glutinous rice cakes and arranging five-fruit trays as well as composing Tet wish poems.

Ho Thi Hoa, the lodger in quarter 4, said “This is the first year I enjoy a Tet holiday away from home. Participating in wrapping round and square sticky rice cakes, I understand feeling of a Tet holiday away from home. These contests help me feel warmer during the Tet holiday”.

During these contests, the organizing board granted 13 lucky money bags to excellent leaguers and cooperated with the Youth Newspaper to grant 18 gift packages including 20kg of rice and instant noodle boxes to underprivileged migrant young workers.

Nam from the Northern province of Thanh Hoa said that owing to difficult circumstance, his family had to stay Binh Duong to enjoy a Tet holiday away from home. On the days before Tet holiday 2014, his family enjoyed Tet gift visits by functional agencies and local authorities. Especially, he took his wife and children to a musical show for migrant workers who stayed for Tet.

A warm Tet holiday

In the past Tet holiday, there were more than 150,000 migrant laborers enjoying Tet away from home. The provincial administration set a goal to offer favorable conditions for migrant laborers to enjoy a significant and warm Tet holiday.

From the provincial budget, all level trade unions and businesses assisted more than VND60bil to grant gifts and cash to underprivileged and migrant laborers. Specifically, localities supported 6,900 gift packages, each worth VND500,000 for migrant workers whilst businesses in cooperation with locals granted more than 440,000 Tet gifts with the total value of over VND46bil to migrant and poor workers. In addition, about 70% of businesses held musical contests and year-end meetings for workers.

Therefore, with about 150,000 migrant workers staying for Tet, every worker received many significant Tet gifts from organizations and businesses. Particularly, on the days near Tet holiday, leaders of the provincial Labor Union organized Tet gift visits to some lodging houses where many migrant workers stayed for Tet.

Also this occasion, the provincial traditional music troupe in coordination with the local Labor Union held 10 music nights for migrant workers who stayed Binh Duong for Tet.

The mentioned great attention from all level agencies and businesses showed responsibility and cement between employees and employers. Aside from local administration’s attention, businesses and locals held many significant activities for migrant workers.
