Herbalist Vo Hoang Yen was born in Ca Mau Mekong province’s Cai Nuoc township in 1975. His parents are Vo Hong Gam and Nguyen Ngoc Tuoi. Owing to poor circumstance, during his childhood he was sent to Hung Nghia Tu Temple in his homeland to pursue study. He at the age of 16 pursued both study and health examination based on traditional medicine at this temple. Tran Van Ba, a famous physician – now head of Hung Nghia Temple’s Medical Committee – was his first teacher. He graduated from the HCMC University of Law in 2001.

During the process of learning about traditional medicine, he has made greater efforts to mull over health treatment based on point acupuncture. At present, he has had 51 students across country.
Herbalist Yen said that he is now treating diseases for residents in the northern province of Ha Tay. After that, he will arrive in Phu Tho province and some central provinces to continue his health treatment. After journeys to central and northern provinces, he will come back Binh Phuoc province. And, he will continue treating diseases for residents in Tan Uyen district and Thuan An town’s Thien An temple on lunar April 17-18 and 19-20, respectively.
When asked why he does not treat diseases in a certain location, he said he has yet to have herbalist’s license and he has yet to meet a proper treatment location. He added that he was used to be fined for not having license.
Herbalist Yen said that he is ready to cooperate with functional and specialized agencies in localities and hopes that functional agencies should offer favorable conditions for him to help the unlucky. A director in Binh Phuoc province invites him to cooperate and build a standard clinic, added he.
