Advantages for Binh Duong to construct smart city

Update: 11-10-2017 | 08:19:31

The results of industrial development that Binh Duong has achieved in the past years offer the advantage to build up a smart city. With that goal, Binh Duong aims to become a bright spot with strong production and technologies at home and abroad.

Potentials

After 20 years of development, from a province with the main economic structure of agriculture, Binh Duong has become a province with a strong industrial development in the country. In the process of economic development, Binh Duong always takes industry as groundbreaking approach. In 1997, Binh Duong had 6 industrial parks, mostly in the south of the province, with an area of 800 hectares. Up to now, the province has had 28 industrial parks with a total area of over 10,000 hectares, distributed throughout the province. Particularly, the province has Mapletre Hi-tech Park in Binh Duong New City covering an area of 75 hectares with an investment capital of USD 400 million. The purpose of this high-tech park is to transfer modern business technologies and processes to local businesses and serve companies in the field of software development and high value-added products.

It can be said that the infrastructure of industrial parks and socio-economic infrastructure of the province have been invested synchronously along with gradual modernization and combination with the reforms of administrative procedures, creating favorable conditions for the production, business,  and business start-up assisting, thereby contributing to promoting and introducing the image of Binh Duong to the world and attracting investment capital resources from abroad.

In order to further develop the industry, Binh Duong is concentrating on renewing its knowledge-based and technology-based growth model, and improving its productivity, efficiency and competitiveness. Besides, the province attaches great importance to the development of branches with comparative advantages and highly added value to step by step reduce the proportion of processing and preliminary processing industries; to develop the manufacturing industries of high technology content and energy saving; to promote high quality services associated with industrial and urban development.

On building up  a smart city, the coordinated model has been adopted in a close cooperation between the State, enterprises and scientists; in which the State holds the leading role. This model creates a larger input to jointly create a common long-term vision and establish appropriate strategies and action programs to promote Binh Duong to become a region of international technical and economic development, especially in the areas of innovation, services and production (high-tech).

Technologies used as development locomotion

According to Peter Portheine, Member of the Council of the Noord Brabant (Netherlands), Binh Duong can build a better future for people and businesses through the use of technologies as driving force for economic and social development. Specifically, Binh Duong needs to focus on the complete production phase, which may be considered as the best scenario for the short term of the semiconductor industry. This means that the investment is limited and the employment rate is high.

Peter Portheine said that Binh Duong should focus on the development of the semiconductor industry, in which the establishment of a modern final production plant for identification and security products such as bank cards and ID cards. In addition, localities need to work closely with some of the semiconductor companies that are operating effectively in Southeast Asia.

In order to carry out the above project, according to Peter Portheine, Binh Duong's first step is to build a solid project start-up phase in the semiconductor market in southern Vietnam; the organizational and financial aspects of the project's operation are projected and analyzed on a firm basis. This will lead to a comprehensive plan of action to build, manage and exploit these facilities, including target markets, technological choices, potential customers and investors. The initial stages of the project will provide a clear insight into the semiconductor market and potentials for Vietnam in general and Binh Duong in particular.
