Update: 31-10-2018 | 10:49:14

Lai Thieu mangosteen is well-known for a long time and was among Vietnam’s top 50 special fruits in 2012. The birth of the An Son Agricultural Services Cooperative aims to help the sweetness of this kind of fruit fly further.

Efforts to maintain and foster mangonsteen orchard

An Son Agricultural Services Cooperative was established by the end of 2017 with 11 members. Tran Van Vien, Director of the cooperative said that the objective of the cooperative is to form up a hi-quality and safe management system with sci-tech application into production to improve the value of production and the productivity of services, thereby enhancing the spiritual and material lives of members.

Pham Van Chau, a member of the cooperative said that his family now has a mangosteen orchard of 1 hectare. In recent years, mangonsteen growers in Lai Thieu have been very excited because of having bumper crops. Especially, the yield of his mangosteen orchard this year is higher than that of the previous year. Since joining the cooperative, he has got more experience to be able to better tend his mangosteen orchard.

He added that over the past time, members of the cooperative regularly met to exchange mutual experience in the process of tending their mangosteen orchards for better development.

Popularization strengthened

Noticeably, six members of An Son Agricultural Services Cooperative have just reached the certificates of VietGap. This is a good piece of information for the cooperative as developing the model of mangosteen cultivation meeting standards of VietGap is a hard process, according to Mr.Vien.

The above-mentioned accomplishment will also help improve the value, export turnover and competitiveness of the local mangosteen products. In the last crop, the cooperative sold nearly one ton of mangosteen for Ha Noi. This is a right direction, helping Lai Thieu mangosteen fly further…

According to Tran The Phong, Chairman of An Son commune’s People’s Committee, Head of the commune’s Steering Board of Collective Economy, the commune has always created favorable conditions for the local cooperatives and cooperative groups to foster. Over the past time, An Son Agricultural Service Cooperative worked very effectively, contributing to maintaining and developing the local special orchards.

In the coming time, the cooperative will boost popularization via setting up a website, making efforts to bring products into stores, supermarkets in and out of the province…Possibly seeing, although being established for a short time, the cooperative has significantly contributed to preserving and upholding the Lai Thieu mangosteen trademark. Member of the cooperative will continue bringing the sweetness of Lai Thieu mangosteen to customers near and far.
