Eighty Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange/dioxin will go to the Republic of Korea (RoK) under a treatment and friendship exchange program held for the first time by the RoK side. These victims will be given medical check-ups, treatment and surgery for free and have the chance to meet with their RoK counterparts. The program will focus on health care for the victims and at the same time garner international support for AO victims, said Tran Xuan Thu, Vice President of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA). The 80 victims selected from nationwide have diseases typical of AO such as cancer, diabetes, and liver-related illnesses, Thu added. The Secretary General of the Korean Disabled Veterans’ Association for Agent Orange (KAOVA), Kim Dae-jong, said that like in Vietnam, the toxic chemicals have even affected several generations within a Korean family. Since 2007, KAOVA has frequently cooperated with its Vietnamese counterpart in encouraging and helping the Vietnamese families of AO victims. VOV
