ASEAN - BIS 2010 to be held in Hanoi from October 26 - 28

The ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ASEAN - BIS 2010) will be held at the Hanoi – based National Convention Center from October 26-28 on the sidelines of the 17th ASEAN Summit, announced the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) today (September 27).

 

The theme for ASEAN cooperation in 2010 is “Towards The ASEAN Community: From Vision to Action”. The most important missions of ASEAN are to exercise signed agreements; push forward with concrete actions and economic integration; explore potential cooperation opportunities and effectively implement Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with ASEAN’s partners; introduce sustainable and balanced development policies; assure economic developments while maintaining social security and environment protection; and effectively handle global issues.

 

This year, organizers are expected to welcome 600 -1,000 delegates generating mainly ASEAN member countries, dialogue partners and the rest of the world.

 

On the occasion, ASEAN Business Awards (ABA) will be granted on October 28 to outstanding ASEAN businesses which have contributed to regional economic growth and prosperity.

 

Deputy Chairman of VCCI and President of the ASEAN - Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), Doctor Doan Duy Khuong, said the event will also help businesses learn more about global and regional development trends through direct dialogues from government officials and leaders in business.

 

“Eight enterprises those are working in the field of Growth, Job creating, Renovation and Corporate social responsibility will receive “The most favorite ASEAN enterprise” award. It will create a playing field to improve the status of industrial sectors in the region”, Mr Khuong said.

 

Vietnam wishes ASEAN-BIS 2010 will be a precious opportunity to promote cooperation and to share experiences in order to enhance the effectiveness of businesses as well as investment of business communities in ASEAN and its partners, at the same time, it will make valuable contribution to formation and achievement of the goals of ASEAN Community by 2015.

 

In the last years, ASEAN members have successfully organized the ASEAN BIS events.

 

The ASEAN-BIS 2003 is the first ever event held in Bali island, Indonesia from October 5 – 7 under the theme “Opportunities brought about by ASEAN and its partnership”.

 

The ASEAN-BIS 2004 was held in Vientiane, Lao DPR with a focus in promoting cross-ASEAN business and investment partnerships in tourism and agriculture. The theme of the event was “Levering on agriculture and tourism to promote ASEAN economic integration”.

 

The ASEAN-BIS 2005 was held on December 10 -11 in Kuala Lumpur with the title “One vision, One identity, One community – Beyond borders: Developing ASEAN’s competitive advantages”.

 

From December 7 -11, in Cebu, the Philippines, the ASEAN – BIS 2006 was held with the theme of the 12th ASEAN Summit “One vision, One identity, One community” and a sub-theme “One caring and sharing community –Bringing ASEAN business to the world”.

 

The ASEAN – BIS 2007 was organized in Singapore from November 16 -18 with the theme “One ASEAN at the heart of dynamic Asia”, attracting the participation of delegates from ASEAN and its key trading partners.

 

The last ASEAN- BIS 2009 was conducted in the capital of Bangkok, Thailand from February 25 -27 with the theme “People to people: Commitment towards ASEAN prosperity”. The significance of the ASEAN – BIS 2008 was bolstering the first year implementation of the AEC Blueprint and taking up the concerns and responses of the private sector on the global financial and economic crisis.
