Asia-Oceania Computing Industry Organization to meet in Vietnam

The plenary meeting of the Asia-Oceania Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO) will take place in Vietnam from June 17-20.

Around 60 high-ranking officials of IT associations and groups from 21 member economies of ASOCIO will come to Vietnam to attend the meeting. They will be greeted by government officials and the Ministry of Information and Communications and will attend a workshop to share their experiences in developing the IT industry with Vietnam.

 

This is an annual event held in turn in ASOCIO’s member countries. This year, Vietnam won the right to host the event, which is an opportunity to advertise progress in software and the IT industry.

 

Truong Gia Binh, Vietnam Software Association Chair and ASOCIO Vice-Chair, observed that Vietnam will bring many initiatives to this meeting, including ideas to develop a website on ASOCIO IT human resources, establish standards for ASOCIO IT human resources, among many others.

 

The organization is a group of IT industry associations from various economies in Asia and Oceania. Established in 1984, ASOCIO’s objective is to promote, encourage and foster relationships and trade between its members, and to develop the computing industry in the region.  

 

Presently, ASOCIO represents the interests of 28 economies, comprising 21 members from Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and seven guest members – the USA, UK, Canada, Spain, Russia, France, and Kenya.  

 

Today, ASOCIO’s members account for more than 10,000 ICT companies and represent approximately $300 billion in ICT revenue for the region.
