Bau Bang heightens the effectiveness of OCOP Program

Recently, the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program has attracted a good response and participation of a large number of farmers in the Bau Bang district and has achieved good results. In order for OCOP products to have a stable consumer market, the district leaders, businesses, and local people have been actively working to build product brands, creating new opportunities to develop OCOP products.

Song Dam rice products achieve three-star OCOP standards.

Improve the quality of agricultural products

In 2022, Mr. Dam Quang Hiep opened Song Dam rice production facility in Hamlet 5, Tan Hung commune. Up to now, Song Dam rice products have become familiar to people in Tan Hung commune and neighboring areas. Mr. Hiep shared that to have a stable output, he invested in modern, synchronous production equipment, rice products with clear origin, best quality, no preservatives, ensuring the health and safety of consumers. In 2024, Song Dam rice products has been recognized as achieving three-star OCOP. This is the pride and motivation for him to continue maintaining and improving product quality and brand on the market. Currently, Mr. Dam Quang Hiep's facility earns more than 300 million VND in revenue each month.

With a melon growing area of about 16,000m2, HTP Green Melon Cooperative (Lai Uyen town) is a typical urban agricultural production model in Bau Bang district. In 2023, the cooperative's melon product was recognized as achieving three-star OCOP. Mr. Huynh Thanh Phong, Director of the Cooperative, said that the OCOP Program is one of the effective solutions to developing typical, traditional local products. Currently, the cooperative has 15 greenhouses and grows 3 types of melons, including green melon, Huynh Long yellow melon, and white honeydew melon; harvests 3-3.5 tons of melon/1,000m2, gains a revenue of 60-100 million VND/crop/1,000m2.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thuong, Vice Chairman of Bau Bang District People's Committee, said that up to now, the district has 20 products recognized as achieving three-star OCOP. The OCOP program has made an important contribution to economic development in rural areas. Areas in the district focus on establishing industrial property rights for local key products, including OCOP products.

The store introduces and sells OCOP products in Tru Van Tho commune, contributing to promoting and expanding the market for local agricultural products.

Unblock consumer markets

In recent times, Bau Bang district’s government has directed bodies and related units to implement many trade promotion activities to support businesses and cooperatives to promote and introduce products, meet OCOP standards; support finding consumption markets by organizing and participating in fairs, Vietnamese goods markets, connecting trade with other localities... Recently, the District Farmers' Union coordinated with the District Economic Office and Agricultural Service Center to launch the first store to introduce and sell OCOP products of the district in Tru Van Tho commune.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Vice Chairman of the District Farmers' Union, said that the establishment of a store to introduce and sell OCOP products aims to create a trading hub between producers and customers, gradually bringing agricultural products to e-commerce trading floors, thereby helping to save time and costs for farmers. This program also contributes to forming agricultural value chains; promoting brands, creating a stable connection between businesses and consumers, between production and consumption of products in the area.

In the coming time, the District Farmers' Union will continue coordinating with relevant departments and branches to open more stores to introduce and sell OCOP products and typical products of Bau Bang district.

 To deepen the OCOP Program, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuong, Vice Chairman of Bau Bang District People's Committee, said that the district will continue to coordinate to instruct entities with products registered to participate in the OCOP Program to complete their documents and products for the evaluation and classification of OCOP products at the provincial and central levels; along with that, strengthen information and promotion of agricultural products, especially OCOP products; support trade promotion, develop markets for OCOP products...
