Following the depiction in a letter sent by President Ho Chi Minh to people and soldiers at the beginning of 1966 spring, we got back to Bau Bang on the first days of December. Getting to the place, we could adore Bau Bang Victory Monument rising up to the sky. We were urged to learn about revolutionary cause recorded by the monument. Indeed, standing before the monument, one could not imagine a place of brutal battlefield. 

55 years have passed, but to the local people and those who fought in this land, the Bau Bang victory still resonates.  Along with the victory of Dau Tieng on November 27, 1965, the Bau Bang victory on November 12, 1965 was like a "steel punch" on the southern battlefield at that time.  The Bau Bang victory has greatly contributed to the military history treasure and the revolutionary armed forces' experience in the lively tactical combat. The battle of Bau Bang took place at an important time in the first battle to destroy the US Army on a relatively large scale on the battlefield of the Southeast, so it had many profound historical significance. The history of Bau Bang district recorded the raid to destroy the American clusters in Bau Bang by the 9th regional division on November 12, 1965 which- was the key battle to open the dry season campaign of 1965-1966 of our army and people.

After 3 hours of fighting, the division coordinated with local armed force to destroy 2 infantry companies and 2 units of armored tanks and mortars and the entire commanding unit of US ‘Anh ca do’. Bau Bang victory affirmed the combat competence of our military units in the Southeast, inspiring the movements of fighting against the US Army nationwide. This was also the opening battle for the next fights to the entire victory. Thus, despite the time spand of 55 years, the resonance of the Bau Bang victory kept on.

A meaningful site for past insight

The war had receded, our country has gradually been renovated and developed.  Over time, the traces of the fierce war in the past also faded. In order to preserve the majestic traces of Bau Bang victory and contribute to the education of patriotic traditions for generations, in 2001, Binh Duong provincial People's Committee built a monument at the site of the Bau Bang battle on November 12,  1965 as a victory monument. Bau Bang Victory Monument is an extremely significant historical-cultural relic as a historical proof of the resilient, daring, lightning-fast fighting spirit and glorious victory of the district army and people of Bau Bang in particular and the pride of Binh Duong people in general.

The monument of Bau Bang victory is located at Lai Uyen town, the center of Bau Bang district.  The construction includes entrance to relic, monument, lake, security /fence, souvenir garden, flower garden around the monument, and a guard house. After being constructed and put into use, the landmark has become one of the places of meaningful traditional activities for generations of people in Bau Bang district as well as from other localities. Huynh Thanh Hung, Deputy Head of the Bau Bang district's Culture and Information Division, said: “The Bau Bang Victory Monument is a record of the victories of heroes who had fallen for the nation. It also carries a very deep ideological meaning about the national tradition of solidarity to fight against foreign invaders.  By the victory, the name "Bau Bang" had become one of the legendary historical places and stories of the nation's glorious victories. It’s forever the pride of the army and people of heroic and loyay  Bau Bang land.”
