Identifying workers as precious capital, every year, Binh Duong organizes hundreds of activities to take care of both material and spiritual lives of workers. Units and localities have carried out many meaningful activities for trade union members and workers such as building houses, taking care of workers living in particularly difficult circumstances, suffering illness, and labor accidents...
Ngo Duy Hieu, Vice President of the General Confederation of Labor of Vietnam, and Nguyen Kim Loan, President of the Provincial Labor Confederation, visit and present gifts from the Fund "Supporting workers having particularly difficult circumstances" to Luong Thi Be, a worker of Shyang Hung Cheng Co., Ltd. (Thuan An City).
Oriented towards workers
During the first months of 2021, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, along with the local government applying blockade measures to suppress the disease, units and localities in the province were flexibly proposed effective solutions for taking care of workers. In addition to efforts to propagate disease prevention and control to each factory and lodging house, establishing Covid-19 prevention and control groups at each grassroots trade union, supporting necessities and taking care of every meal for workers received special attention from units and localities.
The 2023 National Workers' Football Championship held in Binh Duong is a useful playground for trade union members and workers.
In particular, trade unions at all levels utilized all relationships with businesses and benefactors both inside and outside the province to focus on taking care of workers. Thereby, hundreds, even thousands of tons of vegetables, fruits and other necessities were mobilized and supported by trade unions at all levels to each lodging house... At that time, each trade union member was a soldier on the anti-epidemic front.
The pandemic has gone away, leaving behind a huge burden. Many families lost their loved ones, hundreds of children lost their parents. Once again, the province did more practical activities to care for workers, continued to open many activities to join hands to support orphans due to Covid-19, and help children of needy workers go to school. For the last two years, after the pandemic, the impact of the global economic recession has caused businesses to lack purchase orders, workers to be unemployed, and income to decrease. Therefore, units and localities have not only connected job search information for workers, but also done specific material care activities.
Besides holidays and New Year, Workers' Month had many great activities to care for hundreds of thousands of difficult workers who cannot afford to return home on Tet holidays; Provincial Labor Confederation directed all-levels trade union regularly connect with employers to carry out practical care activities for employees. These were "Zero-Dong markets", markets selling goods at original prices, supermarkets selling discounted goods right at factories. Along with that were other care activities such as support fund for commute, housing rent, and support children to go to school; to organize sports playgrounds, competitions, and shows at grassroots trade unions to take better care of employees.
Every year, the "Trade Union Shelter" program is replicated, and Provincial Labor Confederation has called on businesses and philanthropists to join hands to build more houses for workers. As a result, many workers living in difficult circumstances have houses. Another program that always accompanies and helps hundreds of workers overcome difficulties, illnesses, diseases, labor accidents is the "Support fund for workers living in particularly difficult circumstances".
Recently, as receiving support from this fund, Luong Thi Be, a worker at Shyang Hung Cheng Co., Ltd. (Thuan An City) was so touched and said: "In addition to the support activities for workers carried out by trade unions in the province, the "Support fund for workers living in particularly difficult circumstances" is a "lifesaver" for workers when they unfortunately encounter hardships. Each support of 10 million VND is a large amount of money for workers. I hope the fund will grow larger and help more workers in the future."
Take care of spiritual life
Besides taking care of material things, activities to take care of the spiritual life of workers in the province are increasingly strengthened with more activities than before. In order to effectively carry out the work of taking care of the spiritual life of employees, Provincial Labor Confederation proposed solutions, such as: strengthen propagation and mobilize trade unions at all levels to research, innovate and diversify activities; coordinate with the culture, sports and tourism branches to enhance cultural, artistic and sports activities and movements, and build workers' cultural life in industrial parks and areas with large numbers of workers.
Additionally, in recent years, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Provincial Party Committee, and Provincial People's Committee have always paid attention to the lives of workers, both materially and spiritually, creating conditions in terms of land funds and funding for trade unions to build cultural institutions serving the spiritual life of union members and workers.
Every year, hundreds of sports activities such as football, volleyball, running, badminton etc. are organized by Provincial Labor Federation in coordination with localities and grassroots trade unions, creating healthy playgrounds for workers on holidays, Tet, Workers' Month. In particular, in 2023, Binh Duong was the first unit chosen by Organizing Committee of the 2023 National Workers' Football Championship to host the final round. Previously, Binh Duong was also chosen as the home team to compete in the Southeast region qualifying round of the tournament.
The time of this tournament finals became a real festival for workers in the home province and other provinces and cities. Organizing Committee of the tournament coordinated with Provincial Labor Confederation to organize parallel entertainment programs, music nights with singers, lucky draws, and hundreds of businesses offered discount sales at markets for employees. The Organizing Committee also awarded dozens of scholarships to poor students; Provincial Labor Federation donated dozens of gifts to workers from the "Supporting fund for workers living in particularly difficult circumstances"...
An equally meaningful playground for provincial workers that is increasingly being upgraded is the Binh Duong Worker Singing Contest. This year, the contest attracted the participation of 200 grassroots trade unions in the province with 400 performances in three genres: solo, duet, and chorus. The contest has been held weekly, broadcast live on Zalo, Facebook, with hundreds of thousands of workers watching online, live...
Nguyen Kim Loan, Chairwoman of Provincial Labor Confederation: “In addition to activities we have done to care for workers’ lives in the province, I expect the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will continue to have more practical mechanisms and decisions for union members, workers, especially policies for women workers and disadvantaged workers. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor needs to soon deploy trade union institutions and support regimes so that union members and workers can rent and buy social housing; regimes and policies for trade union officials to help localities with large numbers of union members and workers, including Binh Duong Trade Union, have more favorable conditions to perform functions and tasks better, contributing to the overall development of Vietnam Trade Union".
