“Big guys” absent in “game village,” game distributors see profit down

Update: 18-05-2012 | 00:00:00

Game distributors complained that their profits have decreased significantly due to the absence of the big gamers.

Big gamers are absent in the game village

In the past, the “game village” was once very bustling thanks to the participation of the “big guys” who were ready to spend billions of dong to play games. However, the big guys have disappeared from the market in the context of the economic recession, thus making game distributors’ profits decrease sharply.

The golden days over

When analyzing the success of Vo Lam Truyen Ky game, analysts said this came partially from the races to acquire power triggered by the giants – gamers.

In the prosperous period of the game, there were some “big guys” who spent nearly 10 billion dong just to entertain the joy of becoming the highest ranking persons, or developing their gangs into the most powerful ones.

Hac Dieu (black birds), KuWay, Luis Vuiton, Excavator were once the famous names in the gamers’ community for their dissipation. The gamers possessed the “virtual assets” worth hundreds of millions or billions of dong in real money.

A series of championships were triggered, in which the gamers injected tens of billions of dong just to become the dominant in the “world of swordsmen”. Vu Son Gang, for example, once threw more than 60 billion dong into a race, striving to become ruling power, though they later lost in the race.

After Vo Lam Truyen Ky, Kiem The was also a well known game which gathered a lot of big guys. BeoKaKa was a well known gamer, who invested billions of dong in the game to become the highest ranking person and own the best assets.

Other games including Shaiya, Con Duong To Lua, Vo Lam Truyen Ky 2, Tam Quoc Chi, The Gioi Hoan My or Thien Long Bat Bo also witnessed the big guys spending multi millions of dong or billions of dong to play.

In the golden age, games were considered a tool for the big guys to show off and advertise their upper class. This was also the most prosperous period for game distributors, when the information about the games they distributed appeared on mass media. It’s clear that the big gamers brought huge profits to game distributors.

The big guys have gone

Analysts have noted that after BeoKaKa in Kiem The, the community of gamers has not seen any more famous names.

According to game distributors, the “playboys” in the game village have disappeared because of the economic downturn. Most of the playboys in the past were securities investors or real estate traders, who hit the jackpot from huge investment deals. As they could earn multi billions dong from every successful transaction, they did not think twice before throwing money into games.

However, in the current circumstances, when the national economy is facing difficulties and the real estate and stock markets have been gloomy, no one dares to spend money like water any more. As their businesses have bogged down in debts, they have to spend time on thinking about where to escape the difficulties, instead of how to become the heroes in the games.

The withdrawal of the big guys has led to the sharp fall of the profits made by game distributors, who admitted that their big sources of income came from the big guys.

The one-time lucrative profit of game distributors prompted more and more people to jump into the business field. A lot of game distributors joined the market and have suffered from the withdrawal of the big guys, especially the small ones.

Local newspapers have cited a Niko Partners’ report as saying that Vietnam has the highest turnover from online games in South East Asia.
