Binh Duong Buddhism accompanies the province over 40 years

 On April 16, Executive Board of Binh Duong Provincial Buddhist Sangha solemnly held a grand celebration to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Song Be - Binh Duong Buddhism (1983-2023). The ceremony was attended by Nguyen Minh Triet, former Politburo member, former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Nguyen Van Loi, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Binh Duong Provincial Party Committee, Head of Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Vo Van Minh, Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Provincial People's Committee; Nguyen Van Loc, Member of Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of Provincial Party Mass Mobilization Committee, Chairman of Provincial Fatherland Front Committee; and leaders of departments, agencies, and localities.

 Important achievements

This is an important event that marks the 40-year journey of establishment and development of Song Be - Binh Duong Buddhism. In this process, Song Be - Binh Duong Buddhism always accompanies and makes many contributions to the overall development of the province.

At the ceremony, Most Venerable Thich Hue Thong, Vice Chairman of the Executive Board, Head of Legal Department of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Central Committee, Head of Binh Duong Provincial Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Board, said in the spirit of solidarity, harmony, and high unity, with the attention of the Central Buddhist Sangha and the competent, over the past 40 years, most fields and Buddhist Sangha of districts, towns, cities as well as provincial Buddhist specialized committees gained an even development.

With the motto "Dharma - Nationalism - Socialism" and the spirit of "Protecting the nation and the people", Song Be - Binh Duong Buddhism always guides and encourages monks, nuns and Buddhists to practice teachings of Buddhism, live "good life, beautiful religion"; strictly abide by the guidelines of the Party, policies and laws of the State, uphold the great national unity, unity of religions, build a healthy cultural and spiritual life; actively contribute to the development of the province.

Over 10 terms, Song Be - Binh Duong Buddhism has made many achievements. Prominent in the monastic profession, stabilize religious establishments, stabilize monastic and religious life of monks and nuns. The ashrams were opened to disseminate the teachings and ideas of Buddhism to thousands of Buddhist followers. Regarding education, since 1995, the Buddhist Intermediate School has opened 6 courses and trained over 900 monks and nuns…

Social charity is one of the activities with outstanding achievements made by Song Be - Binh Duong Buddhism. Through social charity activities, Provincial Buddhism has made many active contributions to social security, poverty alleviation, environmental protection, response to climate change, education and medical care for the community, especially in the recent period of Covid-19 disease prevention and control.

According to Most Venerable Thich Hue Thong, in order to perform well social charity work, Executive Board of Provincial Buddhist Sangha directed Provincial Charity Department of Provincial Buddhist Sangha to regularly connect with departments and organizations, such as Fatherland Front Committee, Red Cross, Women's Union, Youth Union of the province and districts, towns, cities. Binh Duong Buddhism always enthusiastically responds to social charity movements of the province,  According to preliminary statistics, over the past 40 years, Song Be - Binh Duong Buddhism has contributed over 600 billion VND to charity work.

Accompany the province

Accompanying the development of the province, Binh Duong Buddhism always well adheres to the directions and guidelines set forth by the province, significantly contributing to the development of the province. Recently, Binh Duong Buddhism has also actively participated in patriotic emulation movements launched by authorities at all levels. From the grassroots level to the provincial and central levels, Binh Duong Buddhism always encourages monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers to respond to and participate in movements. Namely, to take part in propagation of guidelines, policies, and laws of the Party and State, including regulations on religious organizations; follow Ho Chi Minh's moral example and actively respond to social charity work. In addition, Binh Duong Buddhism also sends delegates to participate in elected organizations, being members of the Fatherland Front.

In order to achieve important results in the past 40 years, besides the attention of all levels of Party committees and authorities, Provincial Buddhist Sangha has clearly defined the right path of religious practice, promoted patriotic tradition and solidarity, been close to and accompanied the people in the province and other religions in the cause of renovation, industrialization, and modernization of the province.

According to Most Venerable Thich Hue Thong, the 40th anniversary is an opportunity for Binh Duong Buddhism to recognize and re-evaluate its achievements. Binh Duong Buddhism will continue to develop those achievements to orient integration, both inheriting the past and providing development orientation in line with the development momentum of the integration times.

Most Venerable Thich Hue Thong shared: “I think that it is very difficult to form and build an initial foundation, but it is even more difficult to maintain and further promote those achievements. As the head of Provincial Buddhist Sangha, I hope all competent levels and branches continue to pay attention and create favorable conditions for Binh Duong Buddhism to continue to make contribution. I also hope that monks and nuns and fellow Buddhists in the province perceive the quintessential spirit of Buddhism. It is solidarity, harmony, nurturing the Sangha to dignify the Dharma, bring Buddhism into human life, to contribute to building a better country and homeland, and people’s lives are prosperous and happy, continue to dedicate themselves to the development of Buddhism and the province.

At the ceremony, on behalf of provincial leaders, Nguyen Van Loc recognized and appreciated the contributions of provincial Buddhism in recent years. He said that the social activities done by monks, nuns, and Buddhists in the province contributed to the general achievements of the province. With the spirit of compassion and charity, Buddhist Sangha at all levels, monks, and nuns, Buddhists in the province have actively participated in humanitarian charity work, with many specific and practical activities. Every year, Buddhist Sangha at all levels, monks and nuns have donated tens of billions of VND to the disabled, the poor, build houses, and give gifts to people living in areas affected by natural disasters, floods, etc.
