Binh Duong competes successfully at Mekong Delta cycling tournament

Cyclist Truong Nguyen Thanh Nhan from Eximbank Ho Chi Minh City 1 took the overall yellow jersey at the Mekong Delta Cycling Tournament 2012, which officially concluded in Hau Giang province on August 20.

Nhan finished first in the 1,000km nine-stage race through 13 Mekong Delta cities and provinces with a total time of 23 hours, 53 minutes and one second, followed by Trinh Phat Dat from An Giang Plant Protection 1 and teammate Dinh Quoc Viet.

Le Van Duan from Eximbank Ho Chi Minh City 1 claimed the green jersey with 123 points, while the white jersey for the best young cyclist went to Trinh Duc Tam from ADC Vinh Long Television 1.

Eximbank Ho Chi Minh City 2 won the team event with a total time of 71 hours, 41 minutes and three seconds, ahead of Domesco Dong Thap 1 and 2 in second and third place, respectively.

Binh Duong also has a good performance at the tournament. Particularly, Binh Duong took 11th position in the team rankings. Two young cyclists of Binh Duong, including Le Tuan Linh and Le Quang Truc, excellently ranked 19th and 20th among 92 participating cyclists at the tournament.

The annual event, held jointly by the Vietnam Sports Bicycle and Motorbike Association and the Hau Giang provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, gathered more than 90 cyclists from 19 strong teams across the country competing in a nine-stage race for total cash prizes of more than VND250 million (US$12,000).
