Binh Duong earns all male’s gold medals of National Chinese Chess League 2016

The National Chinese Chess League 2016 has closed in Binh Phuoc province after 12 days of exciting competition. At the end, Binh Duong excellently took the championship after claiming all gold medals of male categories. Namely, Binh Duong won  individual and team gold medals of three categories, standard chess, rapid chess and blitz chess. Lai Ly Huynh, captain of Binh Duong chess team, played impressively and won six male’s gold medals. In addition, Lai Ly Huynh and other key players of Binh Duong team, Dao Cao Khoa, Uong Duong Bac, Tran Quoc Viet, Nguyen Long Hai... won three team gold medals of standard chess, rapid chess and blitz chess. Binh Duong became the first one won six gold medals of men's contents in an official competition at national level.

The most surprising success was that Binh Duong got the gold medal of men's team rapid chess, while HCMC was expected to take the gold medal after defeating athlete Uong Duong Bac. But then Nguyen Long Hai of Binh Duong replaced Uong Duong Bac and teamed up with Lai Ly Huynh, Dao Cao Khoa to win the team gold medal and become the championship. HCMC was the runner-up, Da Nang and Binh Phuoc received bronze medals.

At blitz chess category, the trio of Lai Ly Huynh, Uong Duong Bac, Tran Quoc Viet defeated Da Nang team with only half a point (20.5 versus 20 points) to win gold medal. Hanoi and HCMC took bronze medals.

Notably, 3 players of Binh Duong achieved an astonishing feat, when getting gold– silver – bronze medal of the most important category, individual standard chess. Lai Ly Huynh won gold with 8 points, Dao Cao Khoa received a silver medal with 7 points, Uong Duong Bac received bronze medal with 6.5 points. This achievement helped Binh Duong to win the team gold medal of standard chess. Finally, Binh Duong excellently won the championship of the tournament that gathered 110 players from 10 strongest chess clubs of Vietnam.

According coaches of Binh Duong team, to achieve this success, sponsors had sent Lai Ly Huynh China – the world No. 1 chess superpower – for a 4-month training, which help raising the level of this player.
