Work on drug control

Drug-related crimes and evils in the province have become more complicated with reckless expedients.

The number of confiscated drugs under various kinds and shapes has become increased. Source of drugs is mainly bought from other provinces to resell to local drug abusers.

Facing the complicated drug-related evils, local functional agencies have launched many drastic campaigns. At present, the entire province has managed 3,813 drug abusers, 3,582 of whom are youths. Of these, the number of drug abusers managed by local public security is at 1,034. Inefficient rehabilitation is the main reason of rapid increase on the number of drug abusers.

According to the provincial steering board 138, spreading of drug abusers has increased across communes, wards, townships. Doan Phuoc Hau, vice head of the education department under the provincial center for Education-Labor-Job Placement, said “At present, rate of drug abusers become younger. Most of the drug abusers arriving at the rehabilitation centers are at 17 to 30 years old, accounting for 90%. Therefore, functional agencies need to excel promulgation work on drug damages”.

Determining to eliminate drug-related evils

With determination of eliminating drug-related evils, the provincial authorities consider drug control as a crucial task. Accordingly, the provincial People’s Committee has launched plans of implementing a project of “Building communes, wards and townships without drug-related evils” to mobilize agencies, businesses and schools join in the work. In addition, the steering board 138 in cooperation with functional agencies has spurred promulgation and education on damages of drug and expedients of drug crimes for cadres, people.

Along with dissemination, members of mass bodies have involved positively in helping drug abusers and drug crimes to change life. In the past year, mass bodies mobilized 44 drug abusers to arrive at the rehabilitation centers, helped and placed jobs for 67 former drug addicts. The provincial center for Labor, Education – Job Placement held education and promulgation on lifestyle, learning and so on.

Functional agencies and localities have built promulgation plans in combination with the mobilization of “All people unite to build cultural life in residential areas”. Accordingly, these plans have focused on remote localities, youths, students. Until now, the whole province has built 10 out of 91 communes, wards and townships without drug addicts.

Nguyen Van Hoang, vice head of department of cultural lifestyle building, said “Earlier, most of families often sought out ways to hide drug addicts but nowadays many parents depend on assistance of authorities and mass bodies”.

To prevent and push back drug-related evils, it is necessary to have cooperation and support from public security, authorities and mass bodies and people.
